“Awesome A-frame”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2011

We stayed at the newly refurbished A-frame in April, 2011. Just off the beach, private, very clean, and perfect for a couple that enjoys quiet. Highly recommended!

My husband and I lucked out and got deluxe private accommodations in an A-frame cabin very close to the beach (~200 yards) with a charming porch on which to enjoy wine and watch the sunset. It was perfect for the two of us. The bed on the main floor was super comfortable. There is a small kitchenette and large, flat screen TV. The cabin is far from the main hotel buildings, so there is no wi-fi, but we could blare our music on the stereo without disturbing any neighbors, and the privacy was wonderful. Great view of the beach, especially from the top floor loft. The upstairs loft fits a single bed, which we didn't use, but would be good for a child or third person. There is a shower only (not bath tub), and the ladder to access the loft is narrow and close to the wall, so this cabin might not be comfortable for people who like or need a lot of space. It's cozy, clean, simple, and very relaxing. For the price, we really could not ask for more!
The continental breakfast was very nice, and the staff were really charming. We hope to return soon!

And that is why it is almost painful to write this review for fear that rooms will not be available the next time we want to stay. There are not enough great things I can say about this place. Our "room" was a full two-story condo equipped with upper and lower level balconies that look directly out at the beach without a single man-made structure to corrupt the serenity of the view. The room also had a full kitchen with new appliances as well as flat screen TVs and DVD players on both levels. We cooked most of our meals (there is an excellent fish market in town as well) and saved quite a bit of money on our 4 day vacation while still being able to dine in style on the beach. And what did this true coastal luxury cost? Appendages? Limbs? A first born child perhaps? Instead it was a mere $125 a night, over Memorial Day weekend, and for an extra bonus, it was virtually sunny the entire time! As Oregonians, we literally couldn't have asked for anything more. I'll also note that the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating which always makes one's stay even more pleasant. If you are looking for a great getaway, whatever the reason, the Pacific Reef Resort will certainly satisfy the desire to escape and leave you pondering if perhaps they have monthly rates.

Room Tip: condos or the cottage

We booked the Pacific Reef because of i) the reasonable rates and ii) it's geographic location (we're on a long road trip and it worked out as a well placed stop after a day on the Redwood Highway). We were expecting a nice motel type accommodation and I must say we were blown away. Just like the previous review (I guess they stayed in the same room as us), Debra was working on the front desk, she upgraded us at no extra cost to an ocean view room. She was friendly, genuine and gave us some great tips for eating out. The room was huge, newly decorated and had a large comfortable king size bed. We've stayed at 9 hotels so far on our road trip and this was my best nights sleep so far. Couldn't have asked for more.

We rolled into town and needed a place to stay. I called up the front desk and the women working was awesome. Straight and to the point, put us in a room for $69/night, facing the beach and we walked out right on to the beach.

The beds were so comfortable, the room had plenty of space with a bathroom split off from the beds. There was space everywhere and we could hear the waves washing up on shore in the evening with the screen door open. It reminded me of my old neighborhood community when I was growing up.

The Pacific Reef is an awesome place to stay. So far in Gold Beach, where I have stayed in many places, Pacific Reef is my favorite! From the road, it doesn`t look like much, because all you see are the non ocean-view rooms. We stayed in Room #223 which was a 2 queen room. We especially liked the private balcony and the wonderful ocean view. The room was fairly small, but with the vaulted ceilings the room felt very large. There were granite counter tops in the bathroom. The room was very well cleaned. The breakfast was fairly good, when it finally opened. It does not open until 8 am which is semi-inconvenient. But it was the first place that actually had a person dedicated to just working the breakfast, she was very nice and accommodating. There is a large common area on the second floor of the ocean-view rooms which has a gas fireplace and stairs to get to the trail to the beach. Overall an AWESOME hotel.

Room Tip: Get a 2nd floor room for the best view.

When the King of Jordan was traveling on his motorcycle recently, this is where they choose to have him sleep. GOOD CHOICE! After staying in many different properties in the area, I can easily say this is the nicest place I've seen on the Southern Oregon coast, and I'd actually put our condo right up there with many other locations.

Our condo had a full kitchen that was equipped with quality dishes and cookware. There's a washer & dryer. The bedroom upstairs has a vaulted ceiling, quality sheets and genuinely nice furnishings. The water pressure was a little wimpy when we were there, but it scarcely mattered.

As nice as the rooms are, the staff totally ranked right up there with the best. Last Fall we had an exactly opposite experience with one of the 'other' places in Gold Beach, and I am so glad the folks at Pacific Reef are doing it right.

Lastly, here's my greatest and most sincere praise: not only have I already told several people about our experience, but we will be staying here again, for sure!
