“Lovely bridge”
Review of Rogue River Bridge

We often travel up and down the Oregon coast . . . after all, we live here! This bridge, as stated below, is another of the McCullough bridges. Opened in 1931 it somehow survived the tremendous 1964 flood (called the 1,000 year flood) , although the suspension bridge upriver at Agness was completely destroyed.

A few years ago, the Rogue River bridge was completely checked over, cleaned, repaired and fitted with the latest technology so that it can be monitored for any deterioration that may occur in the future. We just love how clean and shiny the bridge looks now - much as it must have looked when it was new!

I got to drive over and go under this bridge by boat. I also saw it in both day and night. At night is looks beautiful around sunset. This bridge along the 101 into Gold Beach has lots of character and makes for some great photos. View it from different angels for your photos and do not miss the fancy end caps.

No matter which side of town you are on in Gold Beach you have fantastic view of the bridge. This is another magnificent design by Conde McCullough who was the master-mind behind many of Oregon's Coast Bridges.

It's a large bridge that spans the Rogue River and especially this time of year you can see hundreds of fishermen out there for the salmon runs. They do have some competition with the seals and otters out there fishing too!!

We've also been here in the early summer to take one of the Jet Boats up the river and you have great views of the bridge coming and going up the river.

The bridges of Oregon were designed and built well...old-fashion style.,,just works of art I may say. We visit the coast at least once a year in the summer or winter. breath-taking views of the volcanic rocks close to the Rogue River. Just to see hundreds or thousands of sports fishermen on the river is another story...salmon go upstream to lay their eggs. I appreciate nature and dislike people driving too fast on US 101. There is beauty in each turn on the highway.

This functional work of art is one of several graceful, arched bridges along Oregon Hwy 101 that were designed almost a century ago by Conde B. McCullough. There is an amazing video on "you tube" of the tsunami in 2011 (6000 mi away in Japan) taken from this bridge. Search: Tsunami-Rogue River, to watch it!

The town was named after miners who found gold in the mid-1800's and has a gr8 museum with more historical details. Also stop by the visitor center for info on scenic and fun activities. I just drove thru but plan to return and stay a week or more next summer.

Note: Parking in town for a large RV & toad is challenging.
