“Best Clam Chowder ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2014

We were in need of a good meal after a day's outing. We saw this restaurant on the shore as we drove to our overnight accommodations in Rockaway beach. After looking around in Rockaway beach for a place to dine, we opted to drive the few miles south and give Pirate's Cove a try. Great decision. The meal for 4 was around $90. They menu had a wide variety of items. The fish sections were great, as was the steak. But the clam chowder was the best I've ever had. A must to try instead of the salad option. The server was working so hard, practically running to see we had what we needed. The restaurant was interesting not only because of the shore side, but had an air of timeless elegance.

“Excellent customer service + Great Food = Repeat Customers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

While looking over the table menu during lunch we noticed that one of the choices shown on the menu posted outside was not listed so we asked the waitress (Debbie) if we could have our preferred selection (fresh bay shrimp melt) although it was not noted in the menu. The waitress jubilantly pronounced that she was making a command decision and would make sure that the cook provided us with what we wanted. She and the cook delivered.
The clam chowder is almost as good as Dooger's (if you have had the clam chowder at Dooger's before, you know what I am saying).
This was our first visit to this restaurant and it will definitely not be our last. Great Job Debbie / Pirate's Cove!

“Food was disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2014

Stopped here to eat lunch after a nice sunny coast drive. Was surprised by the high prices and lack of food substance in the items we ordered. The salmon club sandwich was cut in the usual four sections. It had a thin piece of salmon that was approximately 3 inches square total in size which left a tiny bite at the tip of each of the four sections. There was a thin layer of lettuce w/mayo on one layer. The upper layer was just the salmon. No cheese, no actual lettuce, no tomato. They used a thick white sandwich bread typically used for big french toast, so it looked like a lot of food when first delivered, but essentially was toast. Salad had a lot of black lettuce in it. Chowder was a joke. $7 for a bowl which had about 5 tiny pieces of clam, tiny potatoes (smallest chunks I've ever seen) and a little bit of celery and onion. The soup base was obviously potato water and milk and it tasted as such. Sourdough bread was dense but alright. Iced tea was good. Very disappointed in the food, atmosphere....and our waitress ran around like she was going to be late for a train.
