Very friendly & helpful receptionist who upgraded us to a better room & recommended an excellent restuarant - The Pirates Cove - just outside town . Adjacent to the reception was quite a sizeable lounge area with settees, chairs and a living flame fire. Lovely chandaliers hung over this area. The lift had one side glass which overlooked the lounge. Coffee & mini biscuits plus sweets in reception. Very good toiletries in room. Very good big room although washbasin is in the room, not the bathroom, with the coffee maker at the side on the surface which tends to get wet. TV, fridge, microwave, drawer space, 1 round table with 2 carver chairs plus a smaller oblong table with chair.

We stayed for one night and were thoroughly pleased with Garibaldi House. The staff was excellent! Gabrielle, the Manager, was friendly, efficient, and helpful - gave us great tips on where to go and what to see. We were pleased to meet the owner, Eugene Tish, while eating the lovely continental breakfast - that he made - that went far beyond that of many other hotels. Eugene cooked a wonderful brown rice and green chili fritatta that was really delicious! The owners have succeeded in creating a bed and breakfast atmosphere in a hotel. Little touches like hot popcorn, snacks, candy, games and music in the lobby were very nice. The room was spotless and the beds comfortable. I appreciate the European style triple sheeting (duvet type cover over blanket) and really comfortable beds. The location was great for exploring the coast and in spite of being right on the road, our room was quiet and comfortable. Don't be fooled by the older exterior - the owners have done a marvelous job of creating a definite 4 star location!

This hotel was purchased within the last year by a family who have done much to bring it a long way towards a better future. The beds have been replaced with memory foam. The pillows are down. and plentiful. The window curtains are two level; one is sheer, the second is a deep maroon, which is great for blocking early light. The AC/heat unit is efficient. The sheets are sewn together over the quilt; which I gather is how they do it in fancy hotels in Europe according to their literature. The rooms are very clean. The furniture is light and looks new. This coupled with the room size, the rooms are very....well, roomy. The lighting is bright and plentiful. The shower heads are new. The pool and spa are both very clean, and a lot has been done to get it in that condition. There is also a sauna, if you feel inclined to partake and a fitness room. There are plenty of towels available in the pool room; so no need to drag the ones from your room with you.
The rooms have more natural soaps and lotions, with herbs. The coffee is fair trade. The coffee maker is individual service, but the cups are large. There is a mini fridge that looks and sounds brand new (quiet), along with your microwave and a hair dryer, iron and ironing board. If you need utensils, napkins, etc. there are plenty available in the breakfast room. There is also coffee and popcorn available every evening. Taffy, peperoni slices, cheese, ritz, and a variety of cookies are available during the afternoon in the front lobby. There is a soda machine, ice machine, and snack machine in the lobby area.
The free breakfast includes extras like mango salsa and olive frittata (different every day I guess), along with the typical boiled eggs, cereal, oatmeal, milk, juice, mini muffins, eggs, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and mini yogurts.
There are a couple of antique shops on the next block south of the hotel. Personally, I highly reccomend the one just across the street. The lady who runs it is very nice and very reasonably priced. The other one is more of a pawn shop with some antiques. The veiw from some rooms is beautiful, even if you are looking across the hills of Garibaldi.
The family that runs the hotel is very nice and go out of their way to try and make your stay wonderful. They are always around if you have questions. There are neat sitting areas on either side of the elevator on each level for sitting and relaxing or sitting with a laptop desk if you choose. The wifi is great though. We never had a problem in our room.

On a side note: if you are a light sleeper like me, request a room at the back of the hotel. The best room in my opinion is 309. On the wall the heads of the bed sit against, is a wall that is shared by the utility closet, making this room very quiet. The view of Garibaldi is also beautiful. I could look out that window for hours.
If you want a great place to stay that is family friendly, has great food and a pool and spa, with the bonus of supporting a localy owned business...check out this hotel. You will be glad you did.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Garibaldi House. Staff people were very helpful, and it was a great stay in all ways. I might suggest that people ask for non-view rooms because Highway 101 was noisy all night long. This is not the fault of the hotel certainly, but I'm guessing it would be quieter on the back side of the hotel. You really can't see the beautiful bay anyway from the rooms because of other businesses in the way.

This is a very nice hotel. The people there are way friendlier than average. I'm an early riser so I got up at 4 am and breakfast was already prepared.

Often times hotels in larger cities like Seattle act like they are doing you a favor by letting you stay in their hotel. Not this hotel. All the employees that I saw were quick with a smile and it seemed that they just couldn't wait to help you with something. They had free flavored water, extra blankets already in the bedroom so we didn't have to ask anyone, a cool glass elevator, a little lounge area on each floor with chairs and a laptop table, a swimming pool, a sauna, and a spa. And all for $30 less than one we looked at less than 10 miles away that was only one quarter as nice.

I commented to my family several times how much I liked this hotel. Glad I got a chance to rate it.

My husband and I, along with our daughter and son-in-law, stayed one night on July 10. What a good choice we made! The building was formerly a Comfort Inn, so room shapes are dictated by the original construction. The new owner (since January 2010) inherited a poorly maintained building into which he has poured a lot of money and effort. Our beds were about 3 weeks old and the linens only 2 weeks old. The food waiting in the lobby (cookies, popcorn, crackers, cheese) was a nice touch, but the breakfast was the best I've ever had in a hotel with "free" breakfast. The owner, Mr. Tish, does a lot of the cooking himself and clearly enjoys cooking for guests. In addition to the usual cereal and egg choices, we enjoyed fresh fruit (various berries and melons perfectly ripened), marionberry syrup on waffles, and an olive frittata accompanied by fresh shrimp/mango salsa and yogurt/cucumber sauce. I talked with him about his recipes; his goal is to make the ambience close to a b&b, and I think he's well on his way to achieving that goal.

Every staff member was friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile. The mellow lobby music, fresh flowers in the lobby and breakfast room, cleanliness, hot breakfast, spa water/coffee/teas, lobby snacks added to the feeling of being catered to - more so than in many more expensive hotels. It truly felt like a home away from home, but without any work. We will most definitely stay there again!
