We stayed here for my husband's birthday with our two young children (6 & 9) and had a wonderful time. The B&B is located on the Wilson's working cattle ranch. The scenery is beautiful and Nancy and Phil are so nice. The breakfast was wonderful and sitting at a great big country table with all of the other guests listening to stories of the ranch was so much fun! It was immaculately clean and very comfortable. We had a double room upstairs that was perfect for our family. We slept with the windows open every night and listened to the sounds of the country (cows, coyotes and crickets). We also went on a horseback riding trip that our kids described as "the best thing ever!". I would highly recommend this great bed and breakfast (and the horseback riding)!

I stayed 2 nights at this B&B. Clean, nicely decorated, friendly hosts, great breakfast, and at a price that's hard to beat. Near the three main units of the John Day Fossil Beds Nat Mon. Check out the horse riding they offer, and the opportunity to get above it all with the sunset ride - weather permitting.

We stayed at the ranch for two nights in April 2009 and it was one of the most memorable experiences we have enjoyed while travelling. We were visiting the area to see the John Day Fossil Beds but our time at the Ranch was worth the trip by itself. The ranch owners Phil and Nancy were the perfect hosts, and made us feel very welcome. The highlights of our stay were the horseback ride provided by Phil and the communal breakfasts with Phil and Nancy and all the other guests. The horseback ride was great value, providing a detailed and personal tour of the ranch's amazing geology and scenery. As a beginner to horse riding it was ideal as the horses were well trained, though they still retained their own character! We were nervous about the communcal breakfast as we weren't sure if we were willing to sociallise that early in the morning. However, we enjoyed the experience thoroughly as we got to speak to some great people many of whom had good local knowledge. As visitors to the US from the UK we felt like we were getting to speak to real Americans who were incredibly welcoming and friendly. The food was also delicous.
The breakfast amosphere was encouraged by Phil and Nancy. Their anecdotes were funny and their local knowledge was superb making this the ideal place to stay in the area. We only wished we had longer to stay.

Albeit a bit rustic, the facilities are super clean, well appointed, and comfortable. The hosts are charming and take every opportunity to accomodate guests interests. The location seems remote without being too far off the beaten track. The horseback riding program is exceptional and the terrain is varied and senic. Breakfast is very excellent and is both large and interesting. We enjoyed ourselves and plan to return (most guests seem to be returnees). There is a guest refrigerator and outdoor bbq facilities-you may wish to consider this as dining options in the nearby community are limited although there is an excellent restaurant in the Hotel Condon 20 miles away.

Phil and Nancy have a great place for you to experience a working ranch there in Fossil. We stayed for three days of relaxation, horseback riding, and fossil hunting. The rooms were comfortable- air conditioning in upstairs room was a little inadequate but we managed until the evening when we opened windows and let the cool air in. I especially liked having access to the deck from our room. My teens liked having their own room, direct TV, and they liked the variety of videos available to view.

We all loved the full breakfasts! We enjoyed blueberry muffins, bacon and eggs, orange juice, oatmeal and fruit. All homemade.

I was apprehensive about riding horses, but my family was eager to do it. Phil and Brian did a great job getting me on "Mick", making sure the saddle was right, and teaching me how to hold the reigns and what to do with them. We went our for an hours ride out on the range. We ended up on a hill over looking Mt Hood. What a beautiful view!

For company Phil and Nancy make you feel right at home. Nancy has an amazing memory, she remembers all the guests' names. Conversation comes easily. All the guests we met on our stay were friendly and anxious to share their adventures for the day. We are looking forward to our next visit.
