“Fun, unique experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

Digging for fossils behind Wheeler High School proved entertaining and educational. We found dozens of fossilized leaves dating approx. 33 million years. Tools were provided, digging was easy, and success is guaranteed! Great for families or anyone interested in paleontology/cool rocks. What an affordable, memorable souvenir for your trip to Central Oregon!

“It's a leaf”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2012

While in town kind of one of those things you feel you have to do, so we did it. We ended up there on our own which was nice and quite. It was a little hot out and no shaded area really so that got kind of old. We did find a bunch of fossils though. After a little bit we petered out. This could be really fun with kids.

“A fun way to spend some time.”

Searching for fossils give you an idea of what it would be like to do this professionally (patience). The $5 per person cost is used for education services which is great. We were the only people there and it was a nice break from traveling.

“Found SomeFossils”

There really are fossils there. Just takes a little whacking on the rocks. Bring some kind of knee pad. Otherwise, you're kneeling on the jagged shards you're breaking off. Hat & water are good as you're in full sun.
