“Excellent Place to Stay Near Crater Lake”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2011

My family and I spent two nights here while visiting beautiful Crater Lake, about a 30 minute drive away. We had a great time. The motel is not fancy (e.g., no phone in the room, TV set only gets reception on one channel) but was extremely clean and very comfortable. The owners, Heidi and Sue, are very friendly and helpful and, although not obtrusive, make a real effort to get to know all the guests. There is no breakfast served but a variety of hot beverages (hot cider, hot chocolate, coffee, tea) are available (complimentary) in the lobby as of 7AM each morning, and my room had both a refrigerator and microwave. Families with young children will appreciate the large grassy play area (with swing set) and kids of all ages will enjoy meeting Obie, the house dog, a friendly yellow Lab.

We stayed at the Aspen Inn for 2 nights. We were on bicycles and wanted something close to Crater Lake. Heidi and Sue were extremely helpful in regards to the surrounding area. We felt like we were their only guests. Whenever we had a question they dropped everything to help us. The motel is very cute...not fancy...but clean and adequate. We would stay here again for sure!

Very comfortable, clean, quiet place to stay! We spent only one night here, but after one night at the Mazama cabins at Crater Lake, we wished we spent all our nights here. Great value & Sue and Heidi are pros at hospitality! They offer a variety of accommodations...we chose a new suite and were very pleased. When visiting the Fort Klamath/Crater Lake area, stay here...you'll be pleased!

We stayed June 17th 2011 after reading the reviews and checking the weather. We wanted to be sure the weather was going to be clear and so we waited few days prior to our stay. The Crater Lake lodge was completely booked for the month and the Mazama cabins had availability and near the entrance to the lake but no internet access and no tv. On our arrival we were greeted by Heidi. We booked the "A" frame #6. It had a cozy decor with a queen and 2 twins on top, perfect for a family of 4. Our iPhones had complete internet access so we didn't use the CPU. The room was tidy, shower water was nice and hot, and the towels were soft. There was a microwave and small refrig which came in handy. Even with one channel we got evening and morning news something the lodge nor the mazama cabins had. Heidi was very helpful and informative, and Obie wa well very friendly and well liked by all. We've traveled to many places and we are not the camper type so I was concerned but instead were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed our stay. We will call Aspen inn home again in the near future.

This is the nicest place! We reserved the Wagon House. It was great! My husband and I went with another couple and we had THE best time. We enjoyed the pool table until late in the night.
The Wagon House is extremely comforatable and all the old western relics and photos were lots of fun. The full kitchen had everything anyone could need and the beds were very comforatable. The temperature was pretty cool outside, but the heater warmed the place nicely and was very easy to operate. There was a grill and a fire ring outside, but we didn't get time to use them. We thought it was a great deal for the price.
The owners, Heidi and Sue are unbelievably nice and very helpful in every way. You know they just want you to have a great time while you're there.
All in all, this is a wonderful place to stay if you're in the Crater Lake area. I wish we could've spent more time there. We didn't want to leave!

Our stay at the Aspen Inn was very nice. Heidi and Sue are friendly and helpful and have created a really nice hotel. It's about a half-hour drive to Crater Lake, but the only hotel close is the Lodge at the lake, which is quite a bit pricier, and it wasn't open when we were there. We stayed in the small motel building next to the A-frames. Our room was a good size and had a desk, table, and dresser. It included a microwave, and TV (only one channel) and the wi-fi was good. Everything was spotlessly clean and well cared for. Coffee, cider, and hot chocolate are available in the office from 7-10 am. They are expanding at the moment, building more of the motel rooms, but that didn't bother us at all.

We stayed two nights here in May 2011 in one of the regular (non A Frame) rooms. The carpet in our room was stained and felt dirty. To be fair there was some construction work going on that may have been room refurbishment of another block so hopefully that will change. There is no breakfast and a TV which receives one channel only. There is wifi included but incredibly we were told what we could and could not do with it (no looking at video sites and we must monitor our bandwidth.) I don't think this is acceptable when you are paying quite a lot for a room that has very old decor and facilities (no tub).

Some of our stuff had been rearranged when we got back in a way which made us feel uncomfortable.

As with all critiques, we are grateful to hear from guests about things that need improvement and areas where we excel. This review is no different, and we appreciate the guest's obvious understanding that keeping things up to our normal standards during construction is no easy task. As for carpet and decor...we are an older lodging facility and we are working hard to update and improve our accommodations as quickly as we can while still keeping our room rates competitive.

With respect to tv and breakfast...among our comparable competition, no one has more than one tv channel (if they have tv), and no one offers breakfast. We do, however, offer a variety of complimentary hot beverages in the office each morning.

About our wifi...the options for service in our rural setting are extremely limited and very costly; so we offer what we can. Our wifi is limited, but most people are very happy for the opportunity to check e-mail, surf, skype, etc. We do request that our guests, out of respect for each other, avoid downloading large files, videos, music and software updates so that we will not exceed our daily download limit and everyone can then enjoy access to the internet.

At the Aspen Inn, we do the very best we can with what is available in our area. Most of our guests understand that we do not compare at all to the large motel chains; we are small, independent and very customer oriented. And while most guest reviews reflect great satisfaction and an appreciation of 'a little something more than nothing', we realize we will never be able to please everyone all the time. But we will continue to try!
