“Great location right on the beach; kids loved it”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2010

This is a great hotel in Florence and reasonably priced compared to Best Western and some other hotels that we looked at. The location can't be beat - it is right ON the beach with ALL oceanfront rooms! The folks in the first floor rooms could WALK out to the beach!
We had a nice queen suite with a kitchette - very convenient with the kids.
Not the place if you are looking for something fancy ... plain decor and even a little shabby in places like the corridors. But the room was clean and comfortable. We felt that we got good value for our money.

Granted, I'm not in the money, so there are many hotels out there - 5 star and whatnot - that are "better". But, in my experience, Driftwood Shores has surpassed the Hotel I previously thought was my favorite, and I travel around America a lot.
The rooms were VERY spacious. The in-room kitchen well stocked. The view, through an entire wall of glass, was pure ocean (over an incredibly deep beach). I was really dumbfounded by that. A latenight soak in the cold cold ocean followed by a return to life in the hot tub was the perfect way to end a strenuous day.

We had a great stay at the Driftwood. They have a newly renovated pool with some fun water activities (sprayers etc.). Would recommend it as the hotel is situated directly on the beach. Our room was on the first floor and we had a small patio overlooking beach and we could walk right onto the beach. There is a bar/restaurant that was pretty good, but overpriced. It was convenient to have the restaurant at the hotel as the hotel is off the beaten path. Was a good choice for our family.

We paid $150/night to stay at Driftwood Shores, and didn't get any sleep. The walls between the rooms are paper thin. I called the front desk about the 6 people partying at about 2:30 am. Hotel Security stop by once. Then the people in the next room verbally abused us until we left around 7:00 am. The hotel said they called the cops to have them removed, but they were never removed and security never returned. The hotel would not do anything, nor refund us any money.

The carpet had many burn stains and the bathroom was very dirty.

You could not pay me to stay there again.

Great ocean beach location and a good restaurant but the physical plant is suffering from rampant deferred maintenance. Furnishings need upgrading and replacement plus everything needs a coat of paint.

This is right on a flat sandy beach, so if you want a long walk or jog, you only need to walk out of your room and you're ready to go. However this is an older property popular with families, so kids run back and forth on the lawn just outside the rooms, and many folks are sitting out on their small balconies to watch the kids, the begging seagulls, and/or the sunset. It's a bit noisy on a weekend. There's an indoor pool but it's full of kids. An adequate continental breakfast is provided, and the standard room does have a minifridge and coffeemaker. However, If you want atmosphere or character in your lodging, or want a romantic getaway, you'll do better with one of the smaller boutique lodging opportunities on the coast.

There was a storm, so the beauty of the ocean from our balcony was great. However, when we checked in, we saw a huge rat outside the foyer. We reported it to management, and they were nonchalant about it. I watched, along with several other guests, as the critter made its way down the sidewalk from door to door. Needless to say, we were a bit jumpy in our room after that. Room was sizable with a kitchenette. The continental breakfast was very limited compared to other places we stayed along the way. This inn is out of town away from restaurants (other than their own.) Also away from stores, gas, etc.
