“Right on the beach; good for families, but not for romantic getaway”
Reviewed April 9, 2010

This is right on a flat sandy beach, so if you want a long walk or jog, you only need to walk out of your room and you're ready to go. However this is an older property popular with families, so kids run back and forth on the lawn just outside the rooms, and many folks are sitting out on their small balconies to watch the kids, the begging seagulls, and/or the sunset. It's a bit noisy on a weekend. There's an indoor pool but it's full of kids. An adequate continental breakfast is provided, and the standard room does have a minifridge and coffeemaker. However, If you want atmosphere or character in your lodging, or want a romantic getaway, you'll do better with one of the smaller boutique lodging opportunities on the coast.

There was a storm, so the beauty of the ocean from our balcony was great. However, when we checked in, we saw a huge rat outside the foyer. We reported it to management, and they were nonchalant about it. I watched, along with several other guests, as the critter made its way down the sidewalk from door to door. Needless to say, we were a bit jumpy in our room after that. Room was sizable with a kitchenette. The continental breakfast was very limited compared to other places we stayed along the way. This inn is out of town away from restaurants (other than their own.) Also away from stores, gas, etc.

The best thing about this place was the proximity and the view of the ocean. The room was large and had a complete kitchen. Very comfortable,we would stay again. Great home base for beach activities.

I stayed here on the spur of the moment with my family, and we were a bit aprehensive about it because of reviews. I *thoroughly* enjoyed my stay, and I would stay here again.

We got a three bedroom apartment style room, and I was pleased. It was very spacious with a large living room and kitchen and a BEAUTIFUL view of the ocean. The place must have had its glory days a while back, but it was kept clean. It was a bit run down, the matresses weren't the greatest, and we joked about the balcony falling :) but overall the place was nice. I didn't see any mold. There was a burn on the carpet from one of the fire stokers falling, but who cares? The internet connection was reliable. The staff was helpful and kind (except the time we decided to ride the luggage cart...) and of course the location was great. The breakfast was nothing to write home about, but we ate it anyways. I did not get a chance to go to the restaurant, so I can't speak for that.

If you're looking for a 5 star resort with delectible meals and fine room service, don't visit Driftwood Shores. If you're looking for something comfortable, a spectacular ocean view, and a place to lay your head, you've come to the right place. Hope this helps.

Very disappointed. I feel like I got Motel 6 quality for resort prices. Outlets in the bathroom didn't work. Old coffee grounds in the coffee pot. Iron burns in the carpet. 10-15 staff members smoking outside the lobby uppon arrival. Lumpy mattresses. Just wasn't worth the extra $. I only paid $312 for two rooms but could have got the same thing at motel 6 for $44.99. Continental breakfast was extrememly lame.

For the money, this place was very disappointing. Like another poster said, no better than a Motel 6, albeit with a pretty spot on the beach. Lots of construction going on in the parking/entrance area right now which was not exactly peaceful, the elevator to get up to the top floor was bizarrely slow and tiny and loud, and the room was small with very old furnishings and fixtures and carpet and linens. There wasn't anything particularly obviously dirty about it, but it just kind of had that dirty older hotel room feel. The view of the beach and ocean out the sliding glass door/off the balcony (we were on the top floor) was beautiful though, even though it was cold and gray and windy!

Overpriced and very sub standard. Toilet didn't flush correctly and my daughter in law woke up with itchy bites on her arms! The pictures on the internet advertising are deceiving. Checkout people were not helpful. 3 women had to manhandle suitcases to the 2 floor. We had planned to stay for three days, but checked out the first morning there.
