We liked this B&B so much we stayed another night , which we hadn't planned on. Both Marv and Laurie very gracious hosts, and made our stay so enjoyable. The breakfast is fabulous and you do not need lunch after , believe me.
All the rooms are beautiful, and we stayed in two different ones to try them out. There is a beautiful back yard with a waterfall , and it is so nice to listen to as you fall asleep. I would say this is one of the nicest, if not the nicest B&B we have ever stayed at.

I always used to think of bed and breakfast inns as only for the vacationer, but no more. My colleagues and I first stayed for 5 weekdays at the Edwin K. We liked it so much that we stayed there the next time we had to go to Florence and will continue to do so. It was wonderful to go back to the house after a hard day at work and have sherry by the fire in the relaxing living room. So, so much nicer than any hotel. Then we sauntered down the street to a variety of good restaurants - a different one every night - and no need to get back in the car.
Marv and Laurie are terrific hosts and the house is beautiful.
Not only did I stay there again on business, but I enjoyed it so much I returned for a vacation stay.

We stayed for two nights at the Edgar K B&B and we loved it! We stayed at the apartment (going up the stairs on the left side of the building) and were just overwhelmed by the amenities and the nice, bright and clean rooms. As we stayed for more than one night, we were offered a discount so check with them in case you are planning to stay longer (Florence and the surrounding is worth it). The price we payed was absolutely a good value for what we have received. If I am ever again in the region, I will definitely try to stay there again. The owners are extremely nice and helpful and the location is great.

While this is a lovely B&B, well situated in the heart of downtown, I would highly recommend they reconfigure their bedrooms to allow bathroom privacy. The rooms were lovely, spacious and clean. The bathroom, however, was placed in a corner of the room with a folding screen to separate the commode from the main room. Absolutely no privacy! So, be prepared and forewarned...you don't want to share a room with someone with whom you are not extremely intimate!

We've stayed in B&B's etensively and Edwin K rates as one of the best. A close walk to charming Old Town Florence, a lovingly restored and cared for home professionally operated by helpful hosts and staff, beautiful gardens with the soothing sounds of a small waterfall all combined to make this a memorable stay, in spite of the rain and fog. The gourmet multi-course breakfast with homemade jams/salsa/chutney was outstanding.

Most other reviews of this B& B give you a good idea of the quality of this accommodation; and I am in agreement with the positives posted in previous reviews. We enjoyed our stay here; for the location, cleanliness, spacious/quality room and the plentiful breakfasts provided. This is the type of B & B where you feel as if you are a guest in someone’s home – cause that’s exactly what you are. The common area’s are filled with personal family mementos/pictures etc; as are the guest rooms and the owners are very visible and interactive. In some ways it’s familiar and nice and in others it makes you feel as if you have to tip-toe…little close for comfort.

Some details: We had a room on the first floor in the rear of the property which had a private screen door/deck to access the small (but lovely) backyard (small green area with a few lounge chairs/table etc and a small waterfall made for a very secluded area for a drink/take-out dinner or reading area etc.) The room itself was spacious, quality queen bed and an enormous bath with a jet tub. Antique type furnishings and a large armoire to store your clothes etc. The room (as is the whole property is exceptionally clean) and in excellent condition. FYI – no TV (which was no prob for us) and no refrigerator/coffee maker etc availability in the room, but you do have a wine bucket and wine glasses. Hot water and teas are set out in the dining room for your use though. We had a small cooler with us for drinks etc – you may want to come prepared.

We’ve frequented many B & B throughout the country and this was the first that had a “Book of House Rules” in your guest room. Some were completely understandable from the view of sharing one’s house and it also being a business…but I had to smile cause it also made me feel like the possibility of getting “grounded” by my “parents” over our stay.

Breakfast was very good and plentiful – you won’t go hungry! Fruit cups, a hot entrée, breads etc with homemade jams, juice and plenty of coffee/tea at your disposal. The setting is formal (pretty upscale) and when I first saw the large dining table with places of china I thought “am I going to have to dress up?” But it was fine (don’t think you feel comfortable in a tank top and hiking shoes though or anything much wrinkled – just the impression). Be on time for breakfast or they’ll come get you! Also – the property has some history (being a do-it-yourself- Sears made home) so be prepared for a mini-presentation by Marv during breakfast. Marv is very personable and a story teller, so know that at times during your breakfast attention is to him as a group rather than conversations with other guests. He and Laurie take great pride as hosts, it is certainly evident.

The property itself is on a dead-end street which connects to the main street in the quaint town of Florence. There is a living room for use at the front of the house which also has great lemon cookies laid out in the evening. The front porch also has wicker furniture for your use to chill out on after a day of travels. The location is ideal to walking into town for many restaurant choices/lounges/coffee café’s and village shopping. The small town itself is a nice walking town along the river, very quiet and the restaurants choices right in town were very good. Overall people here and the service personnel in the restaurants are extremely nice. The location of the Edwin K is overall very quiet and nice not to be up on the highway main drag etc as other accommodation choices in this area were. We’re glad we chose Florence to stay for the above town reasons after a day at the dunes and travels to hike and sightsee on the coast.

Clientele of his particular B & B seems to be middle-age & older couples (no younger children allowed) and several Oregon returnees for several day getaways. We’ve met some pretty eclectic individuals in B & B travels (which is what’s most interesting about staying in one....the people). I’m not sure this would be a choice if I had a teenager even – there is a formality to the place and a Republican vibe (nothing wrong with it – in a political way – just an honest overall feeling you get in comparison to the diversity Oregon seems to embrace and the many other B & B’s we’ve stayed at).

Overall it is a great location, and a very well cared for and maintained property. Ownership exhibits great pride and deservingly so. Rooms will please you and you’ll leave breakfast in the morning never imagining you’d have room for lunch.

Because there were four of us, we decided to stay in the apartment that is part of the Edwin K. But staying in the apartment (expensive enough) doesn't get you breakfast, a major loss. Although the host is exceedlingly personable and the apartment very nicely furnished (and comfortable), we didn't see our host the entire three days we were there. Gee, even some wine and crackers in the afternoon would have been nice. If you go to this nice-looking B&B, skip the apartment. As longtime B&B-goers, we'll try this B&B again, but we'll stay in a regular room to get the personal interaction (and breakfast) we obviously need.

This guest chose to stay in the Apartment knowing they would not get breakfast and that it was a separate unit from the main house. There were rooms available in the main house when he made the reservation, and he chose to stay in the Apartment. We make sure to tell all guests this information before they make their reservation. The rate for the Apartment Suite is very good, even without breakfast, as it is a 1,000 sq. ft. unit and fully furnished with full kitchen and two TVs, a large front room, and a bath with shower. We also state on the website and our brochure that the Apartment Suite is suitable for families or guests who want more privacy. If guests want the interaction with other guests/ owners and breakfast, they should choose to stay in the main house and not the Apartment.
