“First B & B experience”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

Wonderful experience. Our first experience at a B & B and would not hesitate to stay here again and to try another B & B. Friendly hosts and no pressure to participate in activities but felt welcome. Knowledgeable about the community. The breakfast was great. The Sears kit home is well maintained and a special treat who love architectural history. The experience made it seem like a special celebration for us.

Room Tip: Great to look out at the river, but water features in back patio is great as well.

We enjoyed our experience at the Edwin K. The room was peaceful, comfortable, clean and overlooked the waterfall water feature that the B & B as in their patio area. The breakfast was delicious! The location is perfect for exploring the Old Town area of Florence.

We stayed in the apartment for $230 for one night. We were told no breakfast and felt cheated. We paid as much as anyone and were treated as an afterthought. Don't stay in the over-priced, out-dated, over-rated apartment at Edwin K.

We are very sorry you were not happy with your stay in the Apartment Suite. We apologize if you were under the assumption that breakfast was included in this unit. We are very clear up front at the time of reservation that breakfast is not included because this unit has a fully-furnished kitchen. We also state this on our website and on our brochures. The Apartment Suite is the only unit we have that sleeps three people that we also allow well-behaved children in. Because we are very up front about this, we understand that some may choose not to stay with us. We are somewhat baffled when those who do choose to stay with us, knowing that breakfast is not included, are upset after they leave because they did not get breakfast.

This unit is a very large, spacious unit that is comparable to a condo-type unit - which you would not get breakfast in if you rented a condo - and we just happen to have that in addition to our rooms to offer to our guests that for whatever reason cannot stay in the B&B. We have adjusted the price to not include the breakfast, and we do not charge an extra cleaning fee which other places charge a substantial cleaning fee. Because this unit is so large, it is the same rate as our higher priced rooms in the B&B - but actually costs us a lot more to clean. We have tried to keep the rates down to make it more affordable to our guests. We are sorry if you felt it was overpriced as we have nicer accommodations and are actually lower priced than some of the motels in the area.

The Apartment Suite is very large and nicely appointed with Dish TV and very nice furniture in the front room, a queen bed and stuffed recliner chair in the bedroom, a walk-in shower in the bathroom, and a fully furnished kitchen. This unit was added to the house in the 90s, so it is not that outdated. New furniture has been added a few years ago and is not outdated.

Thank you for taking the time to write the review, and are very sorry you were disappointed. We also do not know how we can make it any more clear than we do already about the breakfast. We have many, many guests that stay in the Apartment that leave saying they loved the apartment because it is so spacious and nice, is very quiet, has everything they need, and has a view of the river and dunes.

Edwin K B & B was a great stay!! If you have any appreciation of history, this B & B is noteworthy. It is actually one of the original Craftsman "Kit" homes bought from Sears a long time ago. It has been carefully and lovingly preserved by the current owners. Good for them!! The rooms were spacious, quiet, with good beds and were clean. The owners are a treasure of knowledge of the area and willingly shared this with our seemingly endless questions. Breakfast was terrific- true, we did pray, but I nor anyone in my party were offended by the brief moment of prayer. The breakfast was more than generous, fresh and great way to start the day. We stayed two days but easily could have stayed longer. One evening, we sat in their lovely garden and enjoyed its quietness and great local bottle of wine. Memorable!!. My only comment which was common to all the B & B's we stayed at in Oregon and Calif.,- breakfast at 9:00 kinda gives you a little bit of a late start. Normally, we are out the door and on the way to play, explore or whatever by 9:30. No biggie but it was generally about 10:15 -10:30 before we got going. Again, no biggie. Edwin K is definitley a "do over". It was lovely, romantic and well run.

Room Tip: One has a jacuzzi that overlooks the street and across to the river and another overlooks the garden...

We love the EdwinK! We try to go once a year (5 out of 6 so far!) Marv and Laurie are the best hosts! Great service, clean rooms and fabulous breakfast! You won't need to eat lunch and walking distance from all the shops in Old town!

Room Tip: All the rooms are nice, we like the jacuzzi rooms!

Upon arrival, we were greeted by two of nicest people I've had the pleasure to meet, Marv & Laurie VandeStreek, our hosts. Marv noticed my mobility issue and straight away changed our room to the main floor, saving me the discomfort of having to climb the stairs. Our room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. Marv gave us the "low down" on the area and a few of his favourite places to dine. WE followed his suggestions and had a very pleasant afternoon/evening including our dinner. The next morning we where treated to a 5 course brunch. Even Chef Ramsay would be impressed :) Great wi-fi reception, souveniers for purchase (mine was the wine glass), a front porch and bay window to enjoy an evening sunset and a small garden to enjoy.

My wife an I recently stayed at the Edwin K for a couple of nights during an Oregon Coast Trip. The B&B is very clean and Marv and his wife were outstanding hosts. Breakfast each morning was just incredible (all 5 courses!). The Inn is conveniently located in the old town section of Florence and is just a few blocks to restaurants and shopping. We had a wonderful time there and would definately stay at the Edwin K the next time our travels take us through Florence.

Room Tip: The Spring room had a great jacuzzi tub for two.
