“Amazing don't come close to describing it.”
Reviewed October 20, 2011

Heceta Head Lighthouse for me is the most perfect place. If you like ANYTHING about scenery you will quite happy here. Walking along the beach provides spectacular views all around. From the ocean in front of you to the coastal redwood forest behind you. Look closely to the bolders along the beach, they are teaming with life. Take a walk under the bridge and follow the creek as it works its way to the ocean. The trail to the lighthouse is filled with several different species of plants and trees. And then theres the lighthouse. To lean up against it and see what she sees is awe inspiring. The whole park is amazing and well worth the trip. I will be returning as often as possible.

“Parking and lighthouse closed but scenic photo opportunites”
Reviewed October 17, 2011

The access and parking for the lighthouse were closed on this particular mid-September day but the views from the nearby pullouts are still magnificent and provide excellent vistas of the coastline and lighthouse. Fortunately we visited the lighthouse in the past so we were not too disappointed in the non-access this time. If you are going for the first time make sure the area is open for you. You will probably rate the experience as an 'excellent'. Highly recommended.

“Beautiful, especially with low-lying fog.”
Reviewed October 5, 2011

Probably my favorite lighthouse to photograph (and I've photographed every one in Oregon), there's also a pleasant walk from the parking lot to the lighthouse and even a beach and picnic area.

However -- at my last visit the park was closed for repairs. Still a great view of it at a couple of viewpoints on the highway to the south.

“Picturesque Perfection of the Oregon coast”
Reviewed May 25, 2011

The park service provides a thorough, knowledgeable tour on a regular schedule. The original rotational drive mechanism was a weighted work, like a clock only much larger, with very heavy weights. All working mechanism metal was brass to avoid rust. I heartily recommend a visit here, but check on the complete restoration schedule starting August 2011, as the site may be closed for a while.
