Description: Under New Ownership since November 2015. Our goal is to achieve the highest level of culinary and service standards. We work hard to source local organic fruits and vegetables and regularly modify our menu to accommodate the seasons. Our beef comes from pure-bred steers born in the U.S. and fed a 100% vegetarian diet, free from sub-therapeutic antibiotics, growth hormones and Beta agonists. Our seafood has been caught using the sustainable traditional fishing method of hook and line. This method has minimal environmental impact and as all fish are caught live, it ensures they are in top condition before being stored in ice and delivered to us. We are a chef owned and operated establishment dedicated to obtaining only the freshest and best products to represent our food to give our guests an excellent dining experience.

We ate at this restaurant during the apparent offseason and it was terrific. I love Indian food and had the "Spice Seafood Pot" and it was one of the best dishes I have ever had. I also had the Red Lentil Dahl appetizer and it was awesome. This was one of the best if not the best restaurants we ate at during a road trip from San Francisco to Portland including SF.

This was magical--seafood buffet with fresh oysters, shrimp, crab cakes, baked cod, curried mussels and five other great foods. Bottle of fantastic Chardonnay for $30 and then a fantastic live session with a self-taught classical/flamenco guitarist. My Dutch wife calls it "gezellig" which loosely translates to when something is both cozy and done right. Go figure--the owner is Dutch Indonesian. You won't find this kind of karmic dessert in big cities, don't miss it if you're drifting through Florence.

Spice isn't strictly an Indian restaurant, but the meals we picked were, and they were done quite well. Our service was great, and we enjoyed our paan and sauces along with a nice beer. We each had a curry and sampled each others, as we normally do. Both were great.

We were a party of four wanting an early evening dinner. One of us was hoping for oysters, but we were informed by our waitress that they were out for the day due to an oyster shortage. After we had finished our meal, I overheard another waiter telling an adjoining table there were two servings of oysters left. I brought this discrepancy to both waiter and waitress's attention, and they worked out what had gone wrong, the waitress apologizing repeatedly. She said she was new to the establishment. She was otherwise very attentive and accommodating to our needs. There was no compensation from the management for the mistake.

The food was absolutely delicious. We had the special coconut curry with shrimp. The sauce was spicy without being overpowering, and had a nuanced flavor so delectable that I had to drain the bowl. Two side sauces came with it, and they perfectly complemented the curry. I would definitely visit this restaurant again when I'm in Florence. It's owned by the same person who runs the Waterfront Depot across the street, and much easier to get into!

Spice was recommended by our lodging host, who thought that as adventurous foodies we'd enjoy this upscale Asian-fusion bistro in Florence's Old Town district. She was right, what a great restaurant! We stopped by Spice on a busy Saturday mid-afternoon in August, and found their daily happy hour (3-5pm) specials were ideal for our late lunch. They also have a late-night happy hour from 9-11pm on Friday/Saturday, but are closed Sunday/Monday. Their dining room was elegant and air-conditioned, but because it was a beautiful day on the coast, we sat out front on the sidewalk bistro tables to enjoy people-watching and a great view of the Siuslaw River and its art-deco bridge. Spice's happy hour menu includes a variety of attractively-priced small plates, featuring many of the same items from its regular dinner menu. We enjoyed their pan-fried oysters, lamb burger, and a small Caesar salad, all of which were delicious, served with house-made iced tea, but the standout item on their menu was their "Messy Baba," so good we were strongly tempted to re-order more. The Messy Baba is lattice-cut potato fries, mounded with a special mixture of ground lamb, fresh tomatoes, mint, olives and drizzled with a green tzatziki dip. Every restaurant should have such a great dish for sharing on their menu. Additionally, service from their waitstaff was excellent, attentive and professional. We would definitely go back again. And, according to our lodging host, the same owner also runs two other Old Town restaurants located nearby: Restobar and the Waterfront Depot.
