Would like to say visitors stay away but that would be unfair to the Beachcomber. As a local, I don't want to share one of my favorite spots for chowder, steak, hamburgers, or whatever else might strike your fancy. They have an in house baker who makes most of their buns and bread used for sandwiches as well as their desserts. They offer steak night (Tuesday and Thursday) and the steak is fantastic. They also have one of the best micro brew selection on tap we've ever seen. Still has its "biker bar" atmosphere but that just adds to the charm.

Love the food here and the prices. Try the Fish Tacos, or the fish and chips....a great burger....come for the beer dinners....or even Wednesday night Bingo....great fun, great food, great service!

Old Town Florence, Oregon is where your search for great clam chowder should end. Drive by the larger restaurants and walk down Main Street. Granted the Beachcomber does not have much curb appeal. Opening the door it actually looks more like a tavern than a place for some great grub.

The staff are attentive and the decorations worth checking out. The Beachcomber has captured the "Growler" market. My favorite micro brew "Manny's" from Georgetown Brewery in Seattle was one of 20 on tap. $4.25 a pint or $7.75 for a 64 oz growler fill!

Now the best part was the excellent clam chowder. They should be boasting about their chowder. Unlike some chowders where finding clams took a scavenger hunt this chowder soup was full of clams, thick and served with a healthy serving of garlic french bread.

Small time charm with big time value made my meal a memorable one.

We always eat here when we're in Old Town Florence, but the food was a little disappointing this time. My chicken strips were a little dry (though they were skinless, which makes it harder to keep the meat moist). We still enjoyed our lunch, if only to read about what a "growler" is, and how much a refill costs. We got there a little after one, but it had a steady business until we left an hour and a half later. This place is always busy. It has an interesting decor. None of the tables match any of the others, either in style or size, so it makes for an interesting look, what with all the tap handles and growlers on display. They have somewhere between 12 -20 (mainly microbrews) on tap, and also sell a "sampler" for $6.50, so if beers your thing, this is the place to go. Prices are middle of the road on the beer and food.

This is where the locals go. Lots of beer to select from and recently they added growlers. Large portions of good food served relatively quickly. It'll get really busy sometimes and naturally, you'll wait a bit. This isn't for Big City folk as they are in a rush to do everything. It's laid back, a bit noisy at times, maybe catch a fight late at night, but all-in-all, a fun place to spend time with friends or even meet new ones.
