This is a wonderful B&B. My mother and I stayed for one night while visiting the U of O and we loved it. It was right on the edge of campus, so we could walk everywhere. We got bumped up into a larger room because it was available, which was charming and really comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, too. Myra (the manager) was helpful, warm and friendly, and accommodated our request to check in early. Thank you for a fantastic stay!

Overall not too bad. We reserved online for three nights shown as available, and entered credit card payment info. You would THINK that secured the available room, right? Well no, not so much. The previous person in the room decided to extend their stay, and... they were a 'famous author'. So, they got preference. We got upgraded for TWO nights (of our three night stay) to a downstairs suite at the same price, which was nice. (thought the bed on wheels was a little odd, don't move around on it!). For our third night we were bumped to an unfinished room with foldout beds that were supposedly 'expensive rollouts'. They were camp beds. Worse, they were the only furniture in the room that you could sit on. So, it was either deal with this serious downgrade, or leave. We left. The reason for this bump was apparently a football game in town, which made finding a room for out third night both difficult and expensive. I would not have wanted the innkeeper's scheduling nightmares during this visit - granted. But I certainly did not appreciate my wife and myself being treated like second-class ping-pong balls either.

Be aware that their is a "Greek Row" from the Oregon State directly across the street. It's a cute neighborhood but you are most certainly in a college town. If you're there for "the game" you'll love the convenience. If you're not interested in college activities/sports, you might want to look elsewhere.

What a treat! The department at the U of O for whom I was working chose the Secret Garden to accommodate its visiting guests. We enjoyed meeting for freshly brewed coffee in the upstairs anteroom, delicious full breakfasts in the sunny dining room, walks in the safe neighborhood, and the close proximity to the university, restaurants, and shops. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more accommodating. The place is comfy, quaint, quiet, and utterly charming. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

We stayed here in early August and had a wonderful time. We reserved a small room and were upgraded to a downstairs suite, with a room for my brother next door and a door that closed off both of the rooms. Had 2 breakfasts that were great, but since we were almost the only people in the place 2 other days, had danish one day and the owner gave us money for breakfast the other morning.
The history of the B&B(since 1988) is interesting and even though the gardens are no longer maintained, the grandeur of the past can still be seen.
We were able to use the washer & dryer to save on cleaning.
The staff is delightful and very helpful & personable which made our stay that much nicer.
VERY ENJOYABLE.

We were looking for a place to stay with close proximity to Hayward Field, and a reasonable rate and found the Secret Garden. The staff is sweet and personable. They upgraded my parents to a suite free of charge, simply because they could. Breakfast was free and served 8-10. Wifi made it easy to use my tablet to get email and blog, as we were there working as press for mauirunner.com to cover the Prefontaine Classic. 2 blocks from the track at Hayward Field, and the campus of U of O. A corner market and restaurants, coffee shops and bookstore all in walking distance.

Room Tip: The Barn Owl is a sweet room with small fridge, and shower.

The Secret Garden is a short walk to the UO campus. The room (Apiary) I had was very large, and very comfortable. I loved the gas fireplace on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The breakfasts were delicious, although one should plan to take one's time, as the food comes out as it is ready. It was nice to chat with the other guests. The staff was helpful. There was wifi, but it didn't reach into my room, just in the lounge area down the hall.

We *loved* the Secret Garden. We stayed in the Barn Owl room, which was bright and fresh and cheerful. The whole house is beautifully appointed without being overstuffed or too precious. The breakfast was utterly lovely. The young (college-aged) staff is warm and friendly. The location is perfect for walking to restaurants and onto campus. We only got to stay one night on this trip, but we hope to go back!
