Having eaten sushi from coast to coast--with a variety of results involving some memorably good [and bad] experiences-- I can say that Mame is at the top of the sushi/sashimi game. Here in Eugene, it would also rate as one of the very best restaurants, period. Absolutely fresh fish/ingredients: great flavors and more variety than the standard tuna/yellowtail fare found everywhere else in Eugene.
Small place: seats 16, and a tad drafty on a cool night. It's Eugene funky for sure: eclectic crowd including a Japanese knife maker from Portland when we were there. But a caring and engaged master/sushi chef, his talented assistant chef, a good vibe, and of course great food led to a great dinner experience.
And the red bean cheesecake made by chef Patrick that owner Taro gave him: fantastic!
