Description: Marche, located in Eugene, Oregon, opened in August 1998. The restaurant, which seats 80 guests, has an exhibition kitchen featuring a beautiful wood-fired oven. There is also a stylish bar and a large outdoor dining area, covered with awnings and umbrellas and surrounded by a garden of herbs and edible flowers. Marche takes its name from the French word for market – a word that describes our location in the bustling 5th street Market and more importantly, our philosophy of cooking. The menu is based on the foods one would find at a farmer’s market: fresh, seasonal, and regional. Marche is committed to using only those ingredients that are at their best, so our menu evolves as we move through the seasons of the year. Marche also believes in using the highest quality and most healthful ingredients available and to that end use organic, free range, and chemical free products. The culinary technique is French-based: intensely flavored and simply but beautifully presented.

Lovely Sunday brunch/lunch. The charcuterie plate was very nice with some unusual selections. Enjoyed the mixed harvest squash soup (more of a bisque, really). Pasta with butternut squash was perfectly al dente. The dry sodas choices are a nice non-alcoholic option. Only complaint was initial seating. The hostess seemed quite confused, not taking names, forgetting who was there first, sitting a party of two in a table for four when there were parties of four waiting and empty tables for two.

We were at Marche with a group of 25 or so. The appetizers were delicious and the service very good. The main course was very salty though.

First, by way of disclaimer, not a big French Food enthusiast. I had the pork chop which was extremely fatty and marbled, but maybe that is just French. My wife had the fish, which was good but not crazy good, and a small portion. Service was very good, and location is great. I would recommend Breakfast very highly. Really, really interesting and tasty.

I've had much, much better food for far cheaper and without the attitude. That said, it's as good as it gets in Eugene with the exception of King Estate which is yards and away better, with more reasonable prices. However, KE is a drive, and Marche is in town. If this restaurant was in a major city, I would never go back. That said I think there are more reasonable options in town where the food isn't far off.

We have been long-time supporters of Marche. We have always enjoyed their food and their service, and we have shared that experience many times with many friends. Last night we experienced a "new look" at this old favorite. They seem to have joined the ranks of "if the presentation is good, people will pay for almost no food." For us, their vegetable preparations were a real draw, but really? One parsnip, one small carrot, two slices of fingerling potato, and a very small piece of fish for Marche' prices? The service was still excellent, but we will be looking for a new place.
