This place is unpleasant. It's staffed by folks whose sloppy, dirty personal appearances just reflect the sloppy, dirty, environment and food-service practices. They wipe their noses then touch the food, don't wipe surfaces well or often, serve food that's either tasteless or tastes like sawdust, and make really bad coffee drinks (which is surprising, considering the fact that Wandering Goat is also a fairly prominent coffee roasting company). You have to run a gamut of panhandlers just to get inside the place, and then you get panhandled again while you're inside. The cafe is just icky all around.
They are also among the most sullen, unhelpful people I have encountered in customer service in Eugene. Sometimes they don't even greet you at the counter -- just stand there and wait for you to tell them what you want. They take your name, but when your coffee or food are up, they don't call your name. You just have to wonder and then go up to the counter and ask, whereupon they look at you like you are stupid and annoying.
What's strange is that Wandering Goat Roasters makes very good coffee blends. You can peek into the roasting facility through a door in the wall of the cafe, and it is spotless, modern -- the opposite of the cafe. So I feel okay about buying their coffee by the pound, though I do wonder about the hygiene of the people handling the beans.
