Awesome. Even tho' I had grandchildren competing - this is a great free entertainment for track and field enthusiasts. It is great to see the dedication and whole-heartedness that these kids competed with.

Actually it is rather famous for its track and field. Numerous
events are held here all the time. And on top of that, it is a
rather nice looking area right there in the University of Oregon.

There are bigger track stadiums but none better. The quality of this track and field facility is second to none. The best athletes in the world compete at Hayward for a reason. They add more seats for big meets, such as the Olympic Trials. While you are there, walk around the University of Oregon campus!

Hayward Field is the track stadium at the University of Oregon. It is rich in history and tradition, from Bill Bowerman, to Steve Prefontaine, to Mary Slaney, Alberto Salazar, Joaquim Cruz, Galen Rupp, and Ashton Eaton. It hosts annually the Prefontaine Classic, the best track meet in the U.S. and one of the best in the world. Its fans are knowledgeable, appreciative people who enjoy good performances regardless of the country or school of the competitor.

If you are a running aficionado and making your pilgrimage, be sure to go under the old stands (smaller one on east side). You can sense a spirit lurking in the dark wooden structure, even on a bright summer day.
