What ever your form of outdoor exercise may be, waking, running or biking, you will have to go far to find a more pleasant place to enjoy these activities. I have been a resident of Eugene for over 38 years and have used this trail for all three activities. The trial runs along both banks of the Willamette River through almost its entire route through Eugene. It is accessible from many city streets and parking areas, so you don't have to do any more distance than is comfortable for your level of fitness. For bikers, the trail is paved the entire distance. For runners and walkers, it is wide enough to accommodate you and the bikers on the trail. Just remember to keep to the right and be alert to bikers approaching from the rear. They will usually warn you by calling out "on your left" as they approach. For runners, this is a fantastic route for flat distance training. I have personally used it extensively to train for several marathons. Parts of the trail are also included in the routes of several running road races. Not only that, but "Pre's Trail," a bark running trail, is directly accessible from the River Trail at Alton Baker Park. For leisurely walks to intense running or cycling training, it's very hard to beat this excellent feature of Eugene, OR.
