“Eclectic Eugene”
Reviewed March 26, 2012

The 5th Street Market is definitely a good representative of what you might expect of eclectic Eugene; tons shops, ethnic restaurants, even offices! Just expect to lighten your wallet - not outlet places or bargains in this mall. The good news is there are a couple of more reasonable places to eat with a couple of blocks!

“So much to see”
Reviewed January 27, 2012

They have holiday activities throughout the year. There is so much to see you almost don't have enough time in the day to see it all.

“Fun, unique place to shop”
Reviewed December 21, 2011

Whilst I spend a fair amount of time and money buying items at “big box stores”, I also like to wander through small, locally owned interesting shops. The 5th Street Market is perfect for that.

It’s a charming arrangement on several levels, with an attractive center courtyard complete with fountain. There is an elevator for those who can’t tackle stairs. There are many interesting shops. One store, named Hartwick’s, has everything anybody could possibly want in the way of kitchen and gourmet cooking supplies – it’s great fun even if you aren’t an expert cook! I also enjoy Swahili which sells an amazing and fascinating variety of items imported from African nations.

The 5th Street Market also has several eateries, with seating outside around the fountain area – delightful on a sunny summer day. The entire area has free wi-fi.

The original building was built in 1929 and has been added to and remodeled several times. As of December 2011, there is more remodeling going on so expect some noise until it gets finished. Parking is adequate, but tight for large pickups.

“A nice place to browse...”
Reviewed December 9, 2011

I have always liked this unique downtown shopping center, but a number of stores have closed up, which is disappointing. Still, there are some really interesting places to browse including an African artifacts shop, a great gourmet food center and a fantastic kitchen shop.

“Shoping, Souvenirs & Food”
Reviewed January 26, 2007

I haven't been to Eugene before so while driving through late summer 2005 we stopped at a visitor’s center for recommendations about things to see. They suggested the Fifth Street Public Market so we headed over. Free parking was provided near the market.

The market is small but nice and has about 40 shops / restaurants spread out over a couple floors. We browsed through stores filled with the usual souvenir type items. In the middle of the market is a nice brick fountain (good for a photo). We spent about an hour looking around and got something to eat at the foot court, which had a variety of food places.

For some reason the place seemed empty. Maybe we were there at a slow time but it seemed like nobody was around. The shops were open but there were only a few people looking and part of the market seemed to be shut down for renovations.
