“Absolutely wonderful”
Reviewed July 31, 2008

Barking Mad Farm is a great place for a relaxing vacation. The rooms were comfortable, well-furnished and immaculate, even with frequent 4-legged visitors. Breakfast was unique and delicious each morning. We enjoyed leisurely breakfasts and evenings on the porch visiting with our wonderful hosts and the other guests. We stayed for a week and plan to go back as soon as we can for another visit. Highly recommended, whether or not you are not traveling with a dog. The setting is peaceful and views from the porch are breathtaking.

Diana and Hunter have created a very special place that is one of the nicest properties I've ever visited. They are lovely people first and foremost and their hospitality is "just right"....not too little and not too much. I visited with my mother and her Boston Terrier Gracie and they were as welcoming to Gracie as they were to us two leggeds. I plan to visit as often as I can because it's truly a lovely home away from home. Well done Hunter's!

What a relaxing and rejuvenative stay. It’s cliché and totally unoriginal to say this, but we honestly felt as comfortable here as we do at home – and so did our dog.

Breakfast was gourmet, hearty and delicious. Accommodations were upscale but not pretentious, and the interior of the farmhouse is beautiful, with gleaming dark wood floors. We will be back. In fact, if it weren’t a seven-hour drive from where we live, we would be back next weekend!

If you drive to Enterprise from Central Oregon, skip the interstate and take the scenic route through the Painted Hills and Dayville and Ukiah. You won’t regret it.

We have stayed at Barking Mad Farms at least a dozen times in the past few years and think it is one of the best B&B's in the US. Our favorite room has its own access with views of the fields and mountains. We have stayed there in the summer and winter and found the room to be completely cozy with a super comfortable bed (with down pillows and comforter). I have recommended the place to many of my friends and associates. There is no better place to stay with dogs; there is a lovely field outside where they can run and the area offers numerous hiking trails and a lake for swimming after a hot day on the trails. In addition, the winter cross country skiing is fantastic and we are always welcomed with a roaring fire and tea upon our return. In the summer, they have a great deck for sipping a glass of wine and watching the sun set.

Diana and Hunter take a great interest in their guests. From my experience, many are repeat customers. The breakfasts are always great with homemade breads, scones, waffles, and other treats. We always groan about the quantity of food but eat all of it anyhow.

Highly recommended!

We took our terrier to BMF in March for a long weekend. We had great accomocations and good tips from our hosts - Hunter and Diana. We have been to the Enterprise area a number of times in the past and this was by far the best.

Comfortable beds, happy dogs and the best french toast ever!

Yes, this place has gorgeous scenery and is in an idyllic setting, but there are drawbacks. The owner, Diana, asked us to call on the road and give her an ETA. When we were about 6 hours out, we called, and she aked if she had previously informed us that there were steep stairs to our outside room. (No, she had not.)Yes, indeed the stairs were steep, and plenty of them. My old pug, with short legs and bad hips had to be carried up and down the stairs each time we went out. We booked this site as it purported to be "dog-friendly" and we were traveling with our pugs. Unfortunately, when we arrived, they were having an unprecendented heat wave, with temperatures soaring in the high 90's. Pugs are unable to breathe with temperatures much over 70, and we were forced to cut our trip short by one night and 2 breakfasts, to get home to our air conditioning and cooler temperatures. The manager, Diana, proceeded to charge us for the full amount. We paid it, as we had booked for the time, but she did not even deduct for meals that were not eaten. There was an air-conditioner in the room, but she would go into our room, when we were out shopping, and turn the unit down to the low setting, as it was obvious that she did not want to pay for the extra electricity. And I guess it is dog-friendly, if you desire to leash your pet, tackle those steep stairs, walk across the road, then down the road, to get into the designated doggie area, which turned out to be a cow pasture with cow-pies galore. No, the dogs were not allowed on the grass of the front yard, immediately adjacent to the apartment. The room was beautifully furnished, with the bed sumptously appointed with pillows, and throws, and a duvet. Too bad all that money spent to accent the bed was not spent on the mattress itself. The mattress was as hard as an ironing board. I was forced to sleep on the slightly softer couch, and my husband had to dismantle the foam dog beds we had created in the back of the car, drag them up the stairs, and place them on top of the bed, just to be able to lie on the bed. Also, if you plan to have a "discreet" getaway, think twice about that one too. In the course of conversation with the husband, he revealed personal information about a professional woman in the town where I have worked, who had also visited. So not-cool. In conclusion, all the lavender-cream on waffles in the world would not persuade me to either stay here again, or recommend it to anyone I cared about that might want a comfortable night's sleep.

Sometimes, even with the best of intentions in trying to describe one's property both on line and on the phone, there is a bad fit. Sometimes, the weather doesn't cooperate and sometimes expectations are not met despite our best intentions.
Taking five elderly and/or sick pugs and their owners during a heat wave was obviously one of those unfortunate times! We regret that our guests, and the owners of the pugs, didn't mention any or all of these problems at the time they were here, so we could attempt to make their experience better -but they did not!

We spent three wonderful days in July at the Barking Mad Farm B&B in Enterprise, Oregon. Enterprise is near the little town of Joseph, and about three miles from beautiful Lake Wallawa, in northeastern Oregon. It is in a high valley surrounded by mountains where the snowpack melts into the clear lake. The bed and breakfast is a farm with burros, horses, dogs, cats, cattle and bison, and your dog or horse is welcome, too. There are two rooms available, one in the restored farmhouse, and one in a guest-house, both with their own baths. Diana and her husband Hunter are wonderful hosts, and Diana is a fine cook. The breakfast were sumptious! We will definitely be making a return visit.
