“Great little retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

My husband and I stayed here over the weekend celebrating my birthday and Valentine's Day. The place is absolutely welcoming and beautiful. It's a great country retreat that reminds us of Tuscany, Italy. The hotel staffs are friendly and helpful. The hotel rooms are nicely decorated with thoughtful touch. We stayed at the "Old World" room and loved it! At night, the room pillows even smell of lightly scented lavender. Not to mention the home-made breakfast in the morning with the stunning view of the Dundee Hills. The hotel common area is nice and homey. The two beautiful antique armor/ buffet cabinets were a great little treat for me to admire. We'll definitely come back!

Room Tip: The "Old World" room balcony faces the roof top of the adjacent 1st floor room. I'd pi...

The owners are gracious and friendly. We arrived for a 4-day anniversary weekend and immediately Karen told us she wanted to switch our rooms. We ended up in the Vista room, with amazing views of Mt Hood, the winery and the valley. The room was outstanding. The service was impeccable - Karen made dinner arrangements for us every night. She knows everyone - restaurant owners, tasting room managers, you name it. We will be back to willamette and won't stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: Vista room is special.

Do yourself a favor and don't walk but run to the nearest car, boat or train and make your way to the beautiful Dundee Hills set in Oregon's Willamette Valley. It is wine country at its finest! We stayed for a weekend at the beautiful Black Walnut Inn...the property is taken right out of the Chianti Region in Italy. The Inn keepers, the rooms, the amenities, the breakfasts....first class all the way! They can't do enough for you there...you are truly a valued guest.

The only disappointment...that we had to leave. Do yourself a favor and spend some time there with someone you love! We look forward to going back sometime soon. Thank you Karen and everyone else for making our stay so wonderful.

Room Tip: We stayed in the room at the end of the hall on the first floor....large, spacious, comfortable, bea...

First, the setting is absolutely stunning. Oregon wineries and vineyards are surprisingly spectacular. Back to Black Walnut. The first night we stayed in the l'Amour Suite. While large, it smacked of motel furnishings with a tiny bathroom. Very disappointing! The next night we moved to the Master Suite. What a difference! Not much difference in price, but nicely furnished, clean with a great bathroom. The public rooms and breakfast room are nothing special. Not much attention to detail, We get the impression that the owners are relying on the lack of competition and the spectacular setting to carry the day--and they do. A pool would be a wonderful addition.

As an owner, it is always enlightening to read reviews that give you time for reflection. This particular review is interesting in that it discusses the furnishings of our l'Amour suite which has a mixture of modern and authentic French antiques. In addition, the walls hung with some original etchings and an original watercolor purchased by us on a trip to Italy. Counters and floors are done in travertine tiles. We would encourage future guests to check this suite out on line to see the photographs.
In response to the pool suggestion, we would love a pool however as a working farm we have decided that it would be a constant maintence issue and we are in Oregon, a state that has only about three months of true pool weather...so sadly, even though we would love this amenity, it just does not pencil outfor us.

What a surprise. We had a hard time finding a place to stay in the Willamette Valley during the harvest season until we spotted this Gem on Trip Adviser. Simple Outstanding. We stayed in the main house and the rooms were very large with equally as large bathrooms. Breakfast again was great. The four of us travel extensively and this place meet all of our expectations.

My wife and I decided to go to somewhere new this year for our 15th wedding anniversary. She read in Wine Spectator about an Inn in the heart of the Willamette Valley that was suppose to be amazing. Well, let me tell you, it was. We stayed at the inn for 1 week and we could not have been more happy with our decision. The inn looks like it belongs in tuscany. Beautifully landscaped and decorated inside and out. The Classic room had a balcony that overlooked the vineyard and in the morning, you could see the sun rising over Mt Hood. My wife's birthday was on the 3rd and the owner, Karen, arranged for a private wine tour, a picnic basket that Karol prepared and a wonderful chocolate cake that was made by their pastry chef. Now let's get to the breakfast. Breakfast is included in the price of the room. If you think you are going to get some cheezy continental breakfast with dispensers of dry cereal in the morning, think again. Karol can cook!!! Every morning, you had a choice of 4 menu options. The last day, I had the greek frittata and my wife had the frech toast. This is a typical breakfast selection at the Black Walnut Inn. As good as the local restaurants are in the valley, some of our best meals were the breakfast at the inn. There is no question in my mind that we will be back to the Willamette Valley and the Black Walnut Inn will be the ONLY place we stay. They made our time in Oregon truly unforgettable.

We are so glad we wowed you with our breakfasts! We consider breakfast the most important meal for the day. We are also so fortunate to have local farms to source our food from. We hope you are able to return when you are on holiday in Oregon. We certainly hope to exceed your expectations a second time.

As everyone else has said before this place is amazing. I am not sure why anyone would want to stay in the "city". Here you wake up to beautiful countryside views, hot air balloons floating past your window and peace and quiet. It is a short drive into town for dinner but nothing that was excessive. The breakfasts that were provided at the Inn were delicious. Small things to note: the rooms have free wifi, a small refrigerator, a flat screen tv, and a DVD player. Beds were comfy. The balcony for the rooms in the main house was semi private which means others can see and hear you and walk down to your area if they felt so inclined, just be forewarned. There is a small dog named Diva that wanders around downstairs but never was bothersome. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves the country, vineyards, and really nice accommodations.

Room Tip: If you can afford the Master Suite it is stunning.

We are glad you had a fine time at our inn. We are pleased that the room amenities were good for your stay. We have tried to be thoughtful in our selections for each room, setting it up in a way which reflects how we like to travel.
