We had a wonderful time at Lange. We signed up for a tour and tasting for $20 each, and the experience was worth it. Shanie, our guide, was friendly, knowledgable, smart, and comfortably unscripted. We felt as though we were chatting with a friend, not someone droning through a routine. We got to see the young grapes on their vines, the fermentation and aging rooms, basically the facilities where "the magic" happens. We also had a chance to try wines from two different regions, straight from the barrel. Very insightful and interesting.
The tasting portion was great as well. We tasted about 6 wines and all of them were distinctive and exceptional. Shanie was very helpful in describing how the various blends of grapes from each different region in Oregon contributed to the taste. The pinot noirs were the stand out here, and the ones we tried had a wide range of flavors. We left with a couple bottles of wine and a better understanding of the wine-making process.
The Lange wine tour is a great experience for the casual wine lover. Unpretentious, insightful, educational, and full of tasty wines.
