“Forget About Camping! LOL”
Reviewed October 19, 2010

Me and my husbands family go to the Detroit Lake every year. It gets so hot at times the kids have no problem staying in the water all day and I can get my tan on. But with kids and their never ending list of demands it was important to stay somewhere convenient, affordable, and relaxing. Right Downtown in Detroit, Oregon you can find this newly renovated Lodge with clean rooms, kitchenettes, even flat screens and fireplaces. We had an opportunity to get a room that was able to fit My mother n law, friend plus child, myself and little girl. This was great timing cause, I was told this place is booked everyday of the week during the summer, so I am going to book early for next year and have my husband take me up for a romantic getaway during the winter.

Stayed at The Lodge recently and loved it! From the friendly check-in by Jill to the fabulous room in #2. Loved the decor, space - amenities - as well as the surrounding town. We definitely will return when we get back to Oregon.

Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing surprise. This place had a long history of being a "run-down motel". The new owners "remodeled" this place and unfortunately, it's no more than a "pig in spats". The noise levels in the room were almost unbearable and the living space felt very cramped. Although from the outside this place looks promising, the room interior leaves a lot to be desired. For the prices that this "Lodge" charges, I expected a whole lot more and I will not be returning, nor can I recommend this place to anyone that I like. Save your money and drive right on by.

We booked this hotel in a hurry - didn't have a plan to stay along the way to Bend, but had a change of plans. What a pleasant surprise! At first glace we were a little skeptical, but the room was cleaner than the previous 4-star we'd been to and had a rustic charm that all three of us (three ladies) just loved. There's not much in the town in the way of restaurants, but if your planning a few days of boating or fishing on Lake Detroit, this is a sweet little place at a great price. Jill, the young lady at the front desk was great.

My wife, adult son and I stayed two nights in the newly renovated and expanded facility. We found our room (second one in from the town's main road) to be very well insulated from noise (didn't even hear our neighbors). The room is tightly packed, no dressers for storing clothes but sufficient space to stash suitcases. Staff was very friendly. They need to fix their wireless internet reception so you can actually access it in your room, though. Nice 42-inch HD TV on the wall and easily watched from both double beds. For a small tourist-devoted area, the lodge (formerly a very rundown motel) is in great condition and close to available eateries, bars and convenience stores. It is pet friendly. For a solid, basic place to stay while in the area, I'd recommend the "new" Lodge at Detroit Lake.

This place is ridiculous. We didn't even get the chance to step foot into one of the rooms. My girlfriend and I reserved a room online because the place actually looked descent enough to stay the weekend at Detroit. However, when we arrived we were told that our name was not on the list. Apparently this place is too rinky dink to even check their own email for online reservation. Which poses the question, why even offer them? When we told them we made the reservation online, Jill, the manager, finally looked for our email and realized that it was there the entire time. We were obviously very upset since we drove all the way from Portland. When we asked if we could be comped, or even recieve a discount on a future trip she told us that we would be able to stay for the weekend for the weekday price. An entire twenty dollar price difference. Needless to say, I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone, and don't even think it's worth the time of day. Keep on driving till you hit Sisters or Bend and stay in a nicer place. Or heck, maybe even a tent.

There are few choices of places to stay in Detroit, Oregon. This is one to avoid. The location is very noisey because its only one block from the highway and across from a late night bar. In addition the units have paper thin walls. The units are way over priced for what you get. Our unit was described by their website as remodeled and that is a joke. They remodeled the outside look but forgot the inside. Its a beat up old motel and the "remodel" work inside is trash. The bathroom has a tiny shower and sink and no shelves for anything. The beds and furniture are in bad shape and need to be replaced. There was no chair or table in the room. There are lots of marks on the walls and most wood surfaces are very weathered. There was a coffee maker, but not a well cleaned one. The mini fridge and microwave were okay but the TV was tiny. The overall feel of the place is not clean and they also permit pets. They also seem to have problems with reservations on their website.Try camping or another town.
