“The Best American Food in Dallas”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

There are not many choices in Dallas for American food, but Murphy's Grill is always yummy. I like the Marionberry Salmon, and the comfortable dining room area, the oldies music they play, not too loudly, is just right for a quiet relaxing satisfying dinner. My husband prefers the bar area with the big TVs and hamburgers. Prices are reasonable, salads are fresh and interesting, and the menu has something for everyone. Their Yankee Pot Roast stew is always reliably good! The royalty rewards card makes it easy to earn discounts!

“Dependably Good Food and Service”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

We enjoy the beautiful drive from Salem to Dallas for dinner at Murphy's Grill, and have eaten there a number of times. This time, one of us ordered the salmon with blackberry sauce and the other ordered a N.Y. steak so that we could share and enjoy both. Dinner began with a large green salad which tasted very fresh and included some cucumbers. The bread was warm and delicious. The steak was cooked as we asked and was very tender and moist with a nice seasoning on it. The salmon portion was small, but delicious. We both commented on the fresh cooked seasonal vegetables, something more expensive restaurants sometimes fail to provide. We opted for the day's special dessert, cocoanut cream pie and split the mini-pie. A nice touch was small pieces of toasted almonds on top of the whipped cream. Food was served prompty. All questions were answered and boxes cheerfully provided to take some food home.

“Good choice”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

We had a dinner and a lunch at Murphy's. The food and service were very good in each instance. The menu is varied and there is a full bar. There were a lot of locals in the place which I always take as a good sign.

“Too many misses ...”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

Well, our latest visit to Murphy's Grill -- after an absence of quite some time -- did nothing to encourage us to return more often. We were looking for a light supper so we ordered a couple of hearty apps and margaritas. Service was friendly and prompt, our questions were (mostly) answered and we had no complaints in this department.
The food? Barely OK. The popcorn shrimp was, I'm guessing, a box of frozen SeaPak (on sale at Safeway for $5) that had no seasoning and served with bottled cocktail sauce. Kitchen took the easy way out on this one. Our quesadilla used what appeared to be a cheap-quality mozzarella and a smidgeon of green onion and either chopped green pepper or green chiles -- couldn't really tell as there was no heat and little flavor. What the quesadilla did have was a lot of grease that dripped from the corners and puddled on the plate. It could have been so much better with just a little effort. Perhaps a combo of shredded sharp cheddar and pepperjack or a nice Mexican cojita cheese. Substitute grilled onions, spicier green chiles and a housemade salsa or chopped tomatoes and we would have been much happier.
Our margaritas were way too sweet, thanks to the use of a bottled mix rather than freshly squeezed lime juice. A quality margarita MUST use the fresh juice, along with quality tequila and Cointreau or Grand Marnier. Triple sec will do in a pinch, but the better liqueur makes a world of difference. My wife couldn't drink her margarita so ordered her standard Tanqueray and tonic as a replacement. Not good either -- a bit light on the gin... To her credit, our server took off the charge for one of the margaritas (without being asked), so more cudos in the service department. But sadly, dot sure when (or if) we'll be returning.
