Hoodoo's Crescent Lake Resort
Reviewed March 24, 2014

I absolutely enjoyed our trip to Crescent Lake Resort. The service was really nice and the cabins were comfortable. The scenery was amazing! The lake itself is something to behold, but the hiking around the area was the frosting on the cake. I am so glad we took a chance through a groupon purchase and discovered what will be a yearly vacation spot.

We visited for our 23rd Wedding Anniversary - the view and people were great. The Gold Cabin is in need of a new mattress. The overall feel of the place is a fishing camp - a lot of updates are needed for this cabin to be more comfortable for couples and families. For instance a microwave is a necessity for most people that are traveling and plan on cooking quick meals which this cabin does not have as well as the shower - the shower head is way to low even for a 5 foot person.

Overall the stay was quiet and the management was friendly.

Room Tip: Ask if the mattress has been updated. Plan meals based on no microwave.

Needs to remodeled for sure, nails sticking out of wall in places that will scratch you, Kitchen very small this was more like a "Hunters" cabin rather than Family getaway level! Lake was beautiful but little to do as you are in the mountains and there was no snow when we went.

My new husband and I stayed in South Twin cabin. This cabin had a jacuzzi tub and queen bed. We had a great time. There was no snow but the lake was so beautiful. Your in the middle of no-where and that means quality time away from cell phones and computers. Got us back to taking walks or riding bikes.. Things outside! Our cabin was very clean. Linens were clean. The jacuzzi tub had been clean and the heater in the cabin wasn't loud or annoying and kept our cabin toasty and warm! There was a refridgorator but no microwave just so you know! Another plus: we got to bring our dogs which meant no hassle with a kennel or dog sitter!

"D" in the Lodge pours great cocktails! And Gage in the kitchen can cook a great steak! Everyone was friendly and helpful right down to setting up our DVD player, thanks Gill! We had a great time here at the resort and plan on coming back again and again!

We stumbled on this resort last year on a road trip and couldn't wait to come back for an overnight. My husband was turning 50 this year and he decided Crescent lake was where he wanted to go. I booked a three night stay and carefully checked the weather hoping for sunny, but when the forecast two days before showed rain, we figured we would make the best of it. When we arrived, there were few cabins booked, in fact, our vehicle was one of three that we saw. We asked if there was a cabin with a fireplace, and were told the one next to us was available, but for an extra $50 per night. We declined and that cabin went vacant for the three night stay. This would have been an opportunity for them to show custmer service and move us into a vacant room that would have made us more comfortable and we would have spent more time at the resort lodge spending money. Instead, we chose to drive several miles during the rainy days to spend our time at more friendly locales. One couple wanted to leave early because of the weather and were told they would not be given a refund for their final night's stay. Although unhappy, they still chose to leave and when checking out the waitress also decided to charge them for $6 worth of tea. It seems to me that they would have been far better served by giving the tea complimentary and preserving good feelings. In addition, the waitress proceeded to talk about those customers with the rest of the customers in the lodge. Very unprofessional and didn't make us feel good about ever coming back to stay.

About the room: we would have been happier in a room with a fireplace, but the resistance heater they had kept us warm. However, the roof leaked in three places, thankfully not over the bed. It is dark and frankly needs a handyman to make repairs.

We made the most of our stay, but will not return because of the service we received and witnessed other customers experience.

Crescent Lake Resort has a variety of cabin options. They have everything from studios to multiple bedroom cottages. It was just the two of us, so we chose a one bedroom cabin. We had a separate living room with a new flat screen TV. We also had a full kitchen and a small, but functional bathroom. The cabin was well maintained and clean. The resort was quiet in the evening, so it was easy to sleep. The lodge was full service with a restaurant and lounge. They even had a small convienence store on site. We had a great time. I would recommend that the hotel expand the package of TV channels available so we could get local news. The staff was very cheerful and helpful.

Room Tip: It's a mountain cabin by a beautiful lake. It is not a luxory hotel. Manage your expectations...

Where do I start? A friend and I stayed at this "resort" while fishing at beautiful Crescent Lake and were not expecting anything fancy. We certainly got what we expected. The rooms were very run down, far beyond rustic. The only heater in the cabin was a space heater that hung from the ceiling in the main area and made a terrible racket when on. The heat was nice, however, the walls were uninsulated and the rooms would only stay warm if the heater was left on all night. The kitchen was spartan-literally. Bare light bulb above the sink that was burned out. Cracked shelving in the refrigerator. The shower was horrid!! The shower curtain was too short and the water leaked all over the floor. As a result the floor was warped and spongy - not too long before someone falls through!!

The staff were either good or horrible. Unfortunately for us we usually had to deal with the staff person who was very poor at her job. This gal had little or no training and was quite obviously not very happy in her work. Johnny and Delena were very helpful and helped to make our stay as good as possible.

When booking by telephone I was assured each cabin had it's own fire ring. Not so!! We were told if we wanted one we could haul some rocks and make one ourselves!! That would be OK if I was camping, not paying good money to stay at a "resort".

In conclusion the cabins need a complete renovation. The rest of the resort is very good from the docks to the parking and restaurant/bar. The rooms are far too expensive for the condition they are in. With a make-over this place could be very nice.

Room Tip: Try and get a refurbished room.
