“Excellent Service”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

We stayed at Village Green Resort last weekend. I was impressed with their service from the beginning. We asked for a roll away bed, we got it right away. We asked for extra towels, again delivered right away. Although parts of the property are in the process of being remodeled and some are in need of remodeling, the pool, spa and gardens were very nice. Our room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. But what was really impressive was that I left a diamond jewerly and my camera in the room and all was returned to me! That says a lot about the integrity of the employees. I would highly recommend this facility.

My husband and I thought this would be a great anniversary getaway. We've stayed at the Oregon Garden Resort and everything was winderful. The room was similar to that resort but the "lovely" patio was accompanied by the roar of the freeway 50 feet away. The worst part was when I took a walk to get pictures of the garden. I rounded the corner of the property and found a row of units that were gutted and a creepy guy hanging out in one of them. After looking at the complementary breakfast (grapefruit and boiled eggs?), we left. We had paid for two nights but I couldn't wait to leave. Don't bother with this property-i agree with the bates motel comment!

We enjoy staying at all the Moonstone properties, but I would agree with others that this one still needs a lot of help. Our room was one of the new ones and was very nice. As always, we enjoyed our dinner and wonderful free bottle of wine. But, the breakfast was disappointing, and we wished we had gone to a restaurant for a hot meal. We bought a Groupon deal so the cost was acceptable. We will still go to Moonstone properties, but don't have any plans to go back to this particular one. Also, as were were out walking through the gardens, one of the other guests let their big dog out and it came after us barking...she was finally able to get it back in the room.

Room Tip: Always ask for one of the new rooms

Thank you so much for your response and comments on our property.. There are both great things at this property and things we need to work on. We are happy you were able to enjoy our special offer and hope you agree that the special offer of dinner for two guests, a complimentary bottle of wine, continental breakfast and your guestroom was much lower than you would pay at another hotel. Yes... we would agree that our hotel is a work in progress and we are continuing to make improvements as the economy will allow us. We have started with the interior of the guestrooms where guests spend a great deal of time and hope to continue updating throughout the property. Due to the economy and in keeping the costs of the rooms down, it was no longer feasable to offer a hot breakfast. We do however offer a complimentary continental breakfast with your room rate. We also have some wonderful restaurants who offer full cooked breakfasts in the area and would of loved to refer you to them if you had checked with the front desk and asked. We are truly sorry to hear about your incident with another guests dog . We are a pet freindly property and we give specific directions and require a signed policy to owners to have pets on leashes at all times. How unfortunate they do not follow the rules. Thank you again for your reveiw!

This is one of the Moonstone properties. While the facility was not full --it charged a premium price, "because of the Olympic Trials in Eugene." (note to self - the Best Western is newer and cheaper in Cottage Grove) -- So for a 5 star price one would expect a sense of service. On checking in I asked for the manager on duty, the young front desk person was very nice, but no management. The bathroom (in the "new" deluxe section), was very musty with mold on the shower curtain and grout...again no management.

On departure day I called for a "late" check-out (i.e., requested noon) -- told NO. I asked to speak to the manager on duty -- none. Then I asked to speak to who decided no late check outs -- I was told it was "house-keeping" (seriously). So I asked to speak to house-keeping, they would not speak to me - but were adamant about a 11:00 a.m. departure.

There were other issues (food quality and service) -- all seemed to be related to a complete lack of management. However, the workers were trying their best and very friendly -- just not properly trained.

Room Tip: Before committing to a room - go preview it. Look for mold and poor cleanliness. Also, would not r...

We also bought a package deal from Groupon and it truly was a deal! We have stayed here twice before about 4-5 years ago but this was our favorite trip. We stayed on Memorial Day weekend and still were given a deluxe room even though they were busy.

I read other peoples complaints and really think those were flukes and certainly they could have brought up the problems with the staff and had them addressed. We found the staff very kind and helpful, polite and fast.

We also got a deluxe room, room 912. For some reason we were given the handicapped unit but that made it an end unit, yay, and a bigger shower/bathroom, yay. So no matter. Nice decorations, comfy bed, fridge, micro, plenty of room for us.

We loved the private patio but will say being in room 912 down by the Walmart end, there were no gardens to look out at from there The patio itself though was so nicely planted it did not matter much. They are working on the Walmart right now and that made some noise (construction noise) during the day but this of course is no fault of the resort and most the time, we just tuned it out as we were so enjoying the gardens.

Some people have complained about the continental breakfast. Well, the word continental is your clue here folks. And it is free. If you are looking for a buffet and omelettes, and hashbrowns, then go down the road to the family restaurant. But if you are looking to have a nice, light breakfast and save some money, this was great. Juice, coffee, milk, waffles, yogurt, cereal, toast, hard boiled eggs, plenty for us. We had lunch here the second day in the lounge and it was great. Very quiet, only a few other patrons and fast service. That night we had our free dinner that came with the package. Nice restaurant, busy on a Sat night yet still private and quiet. You can have anything on the menu, quite the deal along with a bottle of wine. We brought the wine home but I had the best chicken marsala I have ever had and hubby had crab with Filet Mignon, can't beat that deal. Polite staff, pretty fast service.

Pool was not open yet but with the rain and cool weather, no big surprise in Oregon. Please do be sure to enjoy the gardens no matter what you do. We went through them all in 2 days and got so many beautiful pictures. My favorite is the golden garden but they are all themed and wonderful.

Yes, they are doing work on some of the buildings, some are old and in need of repair but they are doing that. Ask for one of the remodeled buildings, deluxe rooms and you will be happy. The only thing we did not like was Friday night we thought we would go listen to the band. It was packed and very very very loud rock music. But everyone there loved it, just not our type of music. They list who is playing and have music from jazz to rock to country, something for everyone.

I would highly recommend this, I can't wait till we can go again. And again for those who buy a package and then complain, I am surprised. We paid $129 for 2 nights, 2 continental breakfasts, 2 full dinners and bottle of wine and tastings for 2 to four wineries. Basically they almost paid us to stay here. In a recession, when we are trying to save pennies, this was a steal and we are satisfied customers!

Room Tip: Corner rooms have more patio privacy, ask for 900 or 800 building, deluxe room if possible.

This place looks great in all the pictures that you see on the advertisements. But you sure get a rude awaking when you check into your room. We received a coupon from TravelZoo for this property that offered a deluxe room, dinner, and a bottle of wine for what seemed to be a great deal. You come across these when they are trying to bring more customers in. We walk into the lobby and it's just beautiful only to check in and be told that we do not have a deluxe room available and we have put you in a standard. We had driven for 2 hrs and the town that this place is located in, doesn't have big hotels that I can just change to. Besides, I paid TravelZoo for this purchase. The gal at the front desk had a pad from TravelZoo in front of her and said "Here, we will accommodate you with free lunch". We thought we'd make the best of it. I was a beautiful drive and the weather was perfect. You don't find much of that in Oregon. We drove around the bldg to our room and it looked like something out of Psycho. It was the Bates Motel. The structure looked as if it were going to fall in on you. There was so much dry-rot, we were afraid that the carports would indeed fall in. The room smelled of mold. The bathroom door had peeling paint, the TV kept going out, and talk about a 60's look.

We go into town for dinner and we hear that there have been a lot of people complaining about this very issue. You buy this coupon off TravelZoo and they do a basic bate and switch on you. The nice rooms they reserve for those paying the regular rate.

Buyer Beware of this scam at this place. We heard that it's been through 3 owners and they are trying to get it all updated but this was just unacceptable. I usually don't complain, but I could not let this one go. I made sure to email TravelZoo and the parent company for this place.

The gardens around the back of the place were gorgious! That was the only positive thing we could say about this place. The people in town were great as well.

Room Tip: Ask to be in the newly renovated part of the resort and make them guarantee when making your reserva...

Thank you so much for your response and I am so sorry your stay was not what it should of been. The Travelzoo deal was for Deluxe guestrooms with a fireplace and private patio.. There are differences from a Standard Guestroom and Deluxe Guestroom. The Standard guestrooms you are referring to were completed in March with a full remodel with new carpeting, beds, drapery, mattresses, a 32" flat screen television and boutique furniture. I am not sure why you were not reserved into the Deluxe guestroom but you should of been.. The deal is based on availability and the reservationist messed up.. It should not have happened! Without knowledge of your confirmation I am unable to check it to see why.. The deal was amazing that included (2) two nights in a guestroom, two entrees from our dinner menu and a complimentary bottle of house wine and breakfast both mornings and wine coupons for various wineries in the area for wine tasting. I am really sorry you thought that it was a bait and switch.. it certainly wasnt .. I do hope you come back again

We've stayed here a few times. Our most recent stay was the first with a wheelchair. We stayed in a deluxe (remodeled) room. Almost everything was great! the king bed is very comfortable, (soft if you like that). The fireplace with the rounded rock hearth just beautiful. We love the private patio out the back door. We sat out and looked at stars late at night and even though our neighbor in the next room had their private garden light on, it was still dark on our side to let us see the sky. The gardens are the best part of this place. The site advertises it as 14 acres of garden but it feels smaller than that. perhaps they are counting all of the very large lawns. It's still fantastic with many different themed gardens. Each garden has a mailbox with a flyer inside describing the theme and plants in that section. Love the grotto with the hidden bench! There are little surprises all over like the covered bridge bird house.

The prime rib was wonderful, the stroganoff just okay. Our package included dinner otherwise we probably wouldn't have eaten there.

The not as great points: Breakfast was continental with waffles. Really a bit of a disappointment as so many places now offer a good complimentary breakfast with choices of a few hot things. The only fruit offered was grapefruit.

The bathroom is tiny. You must stand at the back wall beside the toilet to close the door. Most of the decor is very nice but in the bathroom the cabinet is faced with kind of seedy looking meant to look like rattan but fooling no one paper!

Information for wheelchair users: They only offer a queen bed in their accessible suite so we tried staying in a king room without the accessible features and it worked out okay for us because the bathroom was so small. There is a bar in the bathtub/shower as well, but my over the bathtub bench would not work in it. We looked at the accessible room and that bathroom was great so we may just settle for the smaller bed next time.

The doors were wide enough for a large wheelchair to go through easily, even the back door to the patio. Easily 90% of the gardens gravel paths were able to be used by a manual wheelchair. The others were just too narrow but you could see almost every single thing by going another route anyway so, for us, it was no big deal and a good time. The ramps on the newer section are smooth and nice and wide and not too steep.

Room Tip: Spring for a deluxe room, our very first trip we'd had to stay in an old room and it was very li...

Thank you so much for your review! I would agree with you and encourage you to reserve our ADA compliant guestroom for your next stay . Although this room has a queen bed it has more space, a fireplace and of course the great Moonstone amenity, a private garden patio off the back of the room.. Thanks again for your review and I hope to see you soon here at The Village Green Resort!
