“Limited breakfast menu”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

During the many years of New Morning's existence, we have come for coffee on weekend evenings when there was live music, stopped often for coffee and a baked goody with friends, and had coffee and a goody with a scheduled committee meeting. Most recently, New Morning has begun offering breakfast, so we decided to try that option. We were in a for a bit of a surprise. I had my eye on their hazelnut pancakes, the first item on the menu. That was a good and filling breakfast, but we were surprised to find the pancakes topped by whipping cream. (I guess we missed seeing that on the menu.) My wife, a fan of french toast, was more surprised to find that entrée missing entirely. We just assumed that would be the other lead item on the menu, especially given that New Morning makes great Challah bread. Perhaps that entrée can soon be added to the menu.

Once we removed the whipping cream from our pancakes and had butter, we enjoyed our breakfast. The pancakes were served with a homemade berry topping, making a tasty combination.

New Morning provides a venue for many, ranging from those wishing coffee and a baked item (cookies, rolls, tortes, etc.) to lunchgoers ordering from the deli, to those who have attended a movie or play and wanting a post-event dessert.

The walls are consistently covered with art work from local artisans, thus making a cozy atmosphere for the community. It's conveniently located in downtown Corvallis, a step away from Grass Roots Bookstore, across the street from Francesca's, the source of great gelato.

“Still going strong after all these years.”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

We love this bakery, although it is much more than a bakery. Kind of a bakery/deli. We've tried many food items over the years and lots of the bakery items. We were a little taken back by the prices since we haven't been here for a few years. We thought they were a little high, especially the baked items.

This trip we actually went for dessert and coffee since we had lunch down the street earlier. Unfortunately our choices weren't so good. We wanted to try something different. I had a bear claw that was called a tiger claw since it had different filling. It was large - nice - but stale and lacking in flavor since the filling was not distributed well. My partner had a cookie with frosting on it that was simply awful.

I will blame our bad experience this time on unlucky choices. We'll probably go back to old favorites next time.

“Just desserts”
Reviewed December 13, 2012

We went here for dessert after getting lunch nearby. I had a chocolate cupcake with cream cheese. One friend had a chocolate peanut butter bar with peanuts on it. Another friend had a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was huge but not finished. It had been warmed up and apparently was too buttery to finish. I liked my cupcake. Very choclately. The peanut butter bar went down quickly. Their other food looked good. I will probably go back for lunch sometime.
