“Replanted forest with trails.”
Reviewed July 5, 2012

OSU Forestry Dept. uses this area for studies on re-forestation and tree harvesting. Therefore the forest isn't a natural one, although stands of trees are allowed to grow tall. With the high canopy and scant undergrowth of most areas, there wasn't good birdwatching (although we saw garter snakes) once you left the more abundant growth along the streams. Still, a good place for exercise; many joggers and hikers on the trails. Busy.

“Great local biking and hiking destination”
Reviewed May 26, 2012

plenty of big trees and trails of all difficulties, hills and creeks make this forest seem far away from Corvallis.

“Great forest just outside of town”
Reviewed February 4, 2012

Good place to hike, bike and ride your horse. Trails improved. Appreciate the newer approach to logging --sustainable rather than clear cut.

“McDonald Forrest Mountain Biking best kept secret”
Reviewed March 22, 2009

Corvallis' hidden gem is OSU's McDonald Research Forrest. There are tons of gravel roads and sweet technical single-tracks to enjoy. Lots of solitude, and occasional wildlife. If you haven't been to McCulloch peak (2150 ft elev.) and you live in Corvallis, you're missing out.
