Older hotel but nice huge rooms that were clean. Stayed on upper level (no elevator). A/C worked great even though we did not need it. Fantastic rate considering it is close to the coast. Did not partake of the breakfast but there was FREE coffee in lobby.

What a dump, flea bag motel really. We drove from Portland down 101, 7 hrs. We were exhausted when we arrived. We thought the exterior looked pretty shabby, cigarette butts all over so we shouldn't have been so shocked when we saw the room. It smelled, it had a TV from the 70s, the bed looked lumpy and when we pulled back the bedspread the sheets were honest to god grey ! Not dingy, really dirty grey. The blanket was filthy with something dried on it that looked like a male 'excreation'. Yup.. So we got back in the car and drove, in the dark, another 1.5 hrs to Roseburg and stayed at the nice, clean Holiday Inn. Coos Bay is a dump and so is that Red Lion. Stay away !!!

Give them a try then decide for yourself. (maybe free bottled water would impress others)

We had a much better experience then the reviews here led us to believe we would. There seem to be two segments of the hotel, what is possibly an original part closer to the highway and what may be a little newer, near the back. We were in room 140 which is further from the highway and on the first floor. It was very quiet and I am sensitive to noise in hotels. The hotel was booked on the night we stayed so even full, it was not noisy.

The hotel only has two levels. The room did have a stale smell but was clean and comfortable. There are refrigerators and microwaves in every room. And there is also a sink in addition to the bathroom. The amenities are all biodegradable and ecofriendly and have a nice smell. We did not need to use the ventilation system because the temp was fine. I did notice that the AC units in the "newer" section of the hotel were not externally located. The rooms are big - ours had double queens and also a desk and big chair. The carpet was clean. Many people in these reviews say it needs to be updated. This room looked like the rooms in the photos posted here. Many hotels these days look very modern. The bathroom is but Red Lion uses plaid comforters and those are never going to look modern. So if that is how people are judging...

The hotel is nice but expensive for what it is. You are paying for The beach and Oregon in the summer. Everywhere in this area is priced in the same range.

The pool is what you should expect. Slightly heated, clean and smallish but nice. Everyone who helped us was very nice.

We booked on priceline so the breakfast was not included. It would have been $5 but we skipped because the scrambled eggs had ham in them and we had some non meat eaters. It was eggs, a meat, potatoes, cereal and toast. No pastries and I think there was fruit but they were out. It was very crowded.

Room Tip: Ask for a room far from the highway and in the back section.

Due for a complete makeover. Unimproved since the 80's perhaps. Not very clean. Ancient lumpy bed. Atrocious breakfast. Foul coffee. Staff nice enough but have little to work with. This is my 2nd Red Lion experience and it will be my last.

Where should I start? I travelled with my family (4 yo and pregnant wife) for the first time to the area. We read some good reviews and decided stay there. We arrived around 11:30 am knowing the rooms may not be ready, but still wanted to try, got a cold look saying, come back at 3 or call us. I was expecting for an offer to hold our luggage, to suggest of lunch locations and something to do in the area.. We checked in to the hotel and couldnt take the strong musty smell in the room so we had to keep the door open for 2 hours! The girls wanted to get some rest, so I removed the bed spread from the bed and found so much hair it looked like a gurilla was in the bed! Called to ask for sheets to be replaced and noticed a hair on the phone!!! went to the bathroom to wash my face, you guessed right, hair was there too. Housekeeping called me to say someone is coming and to say that becuase they washing their own laundry in house, the static may caused the hair on the sheets, nice try, but if you know this is whats happening in your laundry room, why arent you checking the sheets????
TV was an old LG with bad colours, that we just couldnt watch anything. At night, we didnt get any sleep as the mattress was so lumpy, we felt we are dropping to the floor. I will skip the breakfast experience as it was a joke. When checking out, they remembered to ask me how was my stay, needless to say, they wrote it down, but no follow up or any adjustments. I know there are not too many options in this area, but this will never be my choice for any future travels.

Room Tip: I wish I knew of any good room.
