“Nice view of seals and sea lions, bring binoculars”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013

Located at the end of Cape Arago Highway, this state park is easily reached from the Bandon or Coos Bay areas. Sunset Bay and Shore Acres are all very close and can be visited in a combined trip. There is a pull out to the right of the road where one can see a large number of seals and sea lions on rocks just a short distance away from the shore. Be sure to bring binoculars for better viewing. At the parking area at the very end of the highway there is a nice viewpoint with stunning vistas south. Trails down to the ocean allow access to tide pools. Quite worthwhile.

“The Telescopes Made the Difference”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2013

When we visited Simpson Reef in August there were some folks from an organization (I think they’re volunteers) with high-powered telescopes that we could use, allowing to see the seals and sea lions. It’s hard to imagine how many there were, all piled together.

“Beautiful & Fun!”

Best tide pools ever! We love walking down to the rocky pools but very steep trail. Lots to see, just make sure you catch the pools at low tide.

“Great views!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2013

Love going here and just watch the waves crash on the rocks. Great open ocean views, very relaxing. The park is hardly ever crowded and there are several trails to choose from with benches along the way at view points. Don't forget to stop at the pullout to view the Sea Lions, well worth a few minutes of your time!

“Great little park, scenic drive & wildlife viewing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2013

We decided to take this little detour from Hwy 101 on our pacific coast road trip and were glad we did. Once you get through town, the drive by the marina and into the park is a scenic little drive. There is a pullout into the park where the sea lions, seals, etc. sit out on the rocks and swim in between - one of the better views of them we thought along Oregon coast. We continued out to the cape where the views were amazing. While there, we heard more barking, so we hiked down a nearby trail for a more isolated view of a different set of rocks with more marine mammals. Worth the trip and recommend. Not too far back to Hwy 101.
