Friday night was a VERY busy night there, so food took a bit of time to get to us. It was great, though. The chowder is on the thin, creamy side and out of the three chowders I tasted this weekend, was my favorite! If you order a bowl you will get a VERY generous, big portion. Their fish and chips were very tasty, also. Only one beer on tap, but they do have a decent bottled selection, and from the looks of the bar, you can also have a wide array of wines and spirits if you are so inclined. If I return to this neck of the woods, I will gladly eat here again.

The oysters at Sharkbites were the freshest-tasting we'd had on the coast. Excellent onion rings and cole slaw, too.,
Reasonably priced drinks and beer made it a perfect dinner for tired travellers. We hope to be back.

The atmosphere is cool. The staff is cool. The food is excellent! What more could you ask for! Due to its popularity you may have a to wait 20 or 30 minutes on busy nights for a seat. But so worth the wait! It is a quaint off street eatery. No fancy stuff here just good people and good food.

After checking in to our hotel in Coos Bay on the cool, rather windy afternoon of 9/15/12, my husband and I ventured downtown in search of a comfy place for dinner. The town was busy with folks attending a classic car "Cruise the Coos" weekend, and we zipped up our windbreakers for a brisk walk. Sharkbites looked like a plain, "no frills" place, but it appeared busy inside, so we took a chance and were welcomed and ushered into the plain, large dining room (the entrance was a shop where they sell seafood products, with a few dining tables), the grayish walls decorated with colorful burlap flour sacks, motley tables and chairs and a well-stocked bar. The menus were on plain paper, newly off the printer, and we ordered drinks and were very pleased by delicious appetizers of wonderful crab cakes with a zesty pepper sauce and seriously fresh oysters splashed with fresh lemon and champagne vinegar. The place was so warm and friendly, and we noticed that the back of the dining area (separated by huge pieces of driftwood) housed surfboards, wet suits, etc., and the manager told us that surf equipment was a "sideline" of the owners. Our entrees of grilled halibut and salmon with sides of fingerling potatoes and the most delicious, sauteed fresh vegetables we've ever tasted were lovely, and upon request they even provided us each with a fresh, green salad with parmesan and croutons that wasn't even on the menu. So, if you're ever in Coos Bay and hankering for seafood and a welcoming atmosphere, do yourself a favor and stop in Sharkbites Restaurant. After a long day on the road for these Denver travelers, it was a comforting oasis.

We went for dinner on a Thursday night. We had to wait for about two minutes, then were seated in a nice small table on the side of the band that was playing Jimmy Buffet type music. The halibut and chips were very fresh and tasty, and at about 15 was a great deal. I'll go back next time I'm in Coos Bay.
