“Clean, comfortable and classic”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

The Hotel Condon is a delightful stop. Tastefully decorated to historic standards, the rooms include a nice, comfy bed and a sitting area. Starbucks Via packets in the room, and also good Starbucks with the continental breakfast. Breakfast includes fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, juices, coffee, tea and breakfast bread.

Condon is a sweet, quiet town in wheat country and near the entry point to the John Day Fossil Beds. Staying there is quiet and comfortable, and I had the best night's sleep ever. No fitness center or swim pool, but a nice place to stay with a TV and in-room coffee.

This is NOT a big city experience. You'll meet Rob, who runs the Hotel, and who makes sure your stay is comfortable and you have everything you need. You will not see a lot of other guests, but when you do they may be open to having a glass of wine with you in one of the common seating areas.

I recently traveled to Condon, OR for work and was delightfully surprised by the beautiful Hotel Condon! As a previous poster mentioned, Hotel Condon has been renovated to a near perfect state; all while keeping its beautiful historic charm. The room was immaculate and by far the comfiest I have encountered in quite some time! Comfy bathrobes are available for use as well! There was a tasty new restaurant across the street and an adorable flower shop that had so many great gifts! Highly recommend a stay at Hotel Condon and a stroll across the street!

Classic hotel that has been remodeled. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms are large, open, and very clean. Nice towels and bed very comfortable. A hotel that would fit nicely in a big city. It is a great place to stay if for some reason you are in the area. It is quite a distance from the fossil beds. There is a lot of community spirit which was fun to be a part of.

Room Tip: We stayed on the third floor so we do not know about noise from above. We could hear people walking...

Sadly, when people seek to renovate an old hotel, they often either destroy the character and ambiance in the process or else they fail to bring livability up to reasonably modern standards. The renovation of the Hotel Condon is a model of how to do it right.. While making the hotel completely comfortable in a modern sense, it has taken pains to maintain the feeling of charm and elegance of a luxury hotel of the 1920's. Fixtures, furniture and structure have been carefully kept or restored to that era. Ask to see the grand dining room..

This is a nice hotel in downtown Condon. Everything is clean and the room was fairly large. Also, the grill across the street is great, but has slow service. The deluxe room is big. It has a living area with a tv, a bathroom, and a queen bedroom with a tv.

Hotel Condon is nice place to break a journey from Portland or other points West to Eastern Oregon. A good chunk of money must have been invested in refurbishing the hotel and bringing rooms up to a very high standard. My partner and I stayed in the least expensive queen-bedded room at approx $100/night. Other larger rooms, however, are more expensive. Our eyebrows went up at the notion of spending $150-200/night in Condon!
Rooms, however, are nice. A coffee maker was available mainly to provide hot water for the Starbuck's Via instant coffee packs, reasonably fast wireless internet was available throughout the property, and the bathroom was nicely updated and modestly spacious. The only downside for my tastes were the pillows, which were especially hard and not very supportive.
We arrived shortly before our host, Rob Turrie, left for the evening (7:00PM). Even though we had missed the evening's complimentary wine and cheese, Rob offered us a glass of wine or beer as a consolation!
A complimentary but very modest continental breakfast is included. Coffee, juices, muffins, yogurt, and a small selection of cereals were enough to get us going until lunch.
On a Thursday night the hotel was very quiet. Two other rooms may have been occupied out of eighteen. Frankly, I'm not sure how the establishment makes it financially! A former dining room and lounge were closed presumably due to lack of business.
On the question of dining, the Roundup Grill across the street serves very decent fare, and an attached bar provides a good selection of beer and a few wines.
Overall, Hotel Condon is a very pleasant place to rest during a journey across Oregon. Unfortunately, Condon, itself, really can't be considered a destination; so, it would be difficult to imagine more than a single night's stay. In spite of that, we will return!

Took a drive out of Portland to see the fossil beds in the John Day Valley. It is beautiful territory but there are not many options for places to stay out here. We found the HotelCondon on the web and made a reservation...not expecting much more than a place to spend the night. What a nice surprise to discover this lovely old, nicely refurbished, downtown hotel. Nice amenties: wine and cheese in the afternoon, nice size rooms with real paintings on the wall, robes, good quality linens, acceptable coffee, ok breakfast buffet, etc. We would come back should we ever be I this area again.
