“A nice surprise”
Reviewed September 12, 2012 via mobile

Took a drive out of Portland to see the fossil beds in the John Day Valley. It is beautiful territory but there are not many options for places to stay out here. We found the HotelCondon on the web and made a reservation...not expecting much more than a place to spend the night. What a nice surprise to discover this lovely old, nicely refurbished, downtown hotel. Nice amenties: wine and cheese in the afternoon, nice size rooms with real paintings on the wall, robes, good quality linens, acceptable coffee, ok breakfast buffet, etc. We would come back should we ever be I this area again.

Our group of seven couples stayed at the HIstoric Condon Hotel for the second time and it was even better this year than 4 years ago. Hotel Manager Rob Turrie went "over and above" in making us feel welcome by creating a little "welcome display" for our sports car group and opening the beautiful old bar for complimentary afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres. The rooms were beautiful and the beds comfortable. Dining accommodations in Condon are somewhat limited since the hotel closed its dining room, but Rob may be able to offer a catered meal in the dining room with adequate notice. All in all a great experience.

Room Tip: Deluxe Queen Suites are HUGE, perfect for entertaining your fellow guests. Jr. Queen Suites not as...

Our camping trip to the John Day Fossil Beds was delayed, so at the last minute, I researched a place to stay due to leaving Portland later than expected. Condon was a perfect location to drive to the first night, before heading out the next day to find a camp site. When I called the hotel to make the reservation, I was greeted very kindly and given all the information I needed. I was informed of their wine happy hour, if we could make it there between 4-6; unfortunately, we couldn't. When I asked about places in the area to camp, I was given some great information. We arrived to find this beautiful old historic hotel in the middle of a very small town. The queen room was perfect for our one night stay. It was clean, and the hotel itself had great charm. The continental breakfast the next day was all set-up when we woke. The bed was comfortable. The best part was that upon checking out, Rob, the hotel manager, remembered my call when we made our reservation and printed off some Internet information on camp sites for us. The hospitality was wonderful. It's so great to travel and find down to earth people who seem to really care about making a connection and sincerely helping you out. The hotel is lucky to have Rob! I recommend this great little hidden gem in the middle of some of Oregon's most beautiful country. We will certainly be back! Definitely make your way to the Painted Hills and the John Day Fossil Beds Information Center. And research the ghost towns in the area.

Wow, small town with a big surprise! Tastefully done remodel, welcome wine and cheese, Starbucks Via in your room and for breakfast warm homemade banana muffins with melting chocolate chips (a first for me in a hotel). Attention to detail makes it worth the drive to Hotel Condon

When I was a kid going to Condon every summer to visit my Grandparents and before (then) Hotel Condon shut down and yet to renovated I swore that someday if it were to be built up I would stay there! I finally got my chance! The Hotel Condon brings you back to the days of 'old town' the atmosphere of the renovation keeps it with the times! The Pearl of Eastern Oregon of lodging! The personnel there are THE TOPS! Personal and professional! They have a 'wine and cheese' every night and a very nice set up for a continental breakfast! The Hotel is comfortable, reasonably priced and it 'takes you back'! Also has WIFI! Right on the corner on Main Street! A MUST STAY! Comfortable and buy yourself a HC Mug (they also sell nice robes there, too!) Just blocks away from everything... of course everything is in Condon!

Room Tip: They are very accommodating! They give you 'after hour instructions'! They take good care...

A great place to rest if you are traveling through eastern Oregon and enjoy historic settings. The hotel has been restored and in beautiful condition. Rob, the hotel manager, was helpful with information on the area, the town history and any questions you may have. All the amenities you want are there, a comfortable bed, refrigerator and microwave, wine and cheese reception and nice continental breakfast in the morning.
Services in the area are limited, so it is good to find out what is open for lunch and dinner. We were visiting the John Day Fossil Beds and it involved much driving to take them in from Condon; but we enjoyed the hotel. Price of the rooms is something you may need to consider for your planning.

Nestled in the heart of Condon, Oregon, you'll find this great gem of a hotel. Our innkeeper, Rob, was warm and inviting, making sure that we had everything we could possibly need. The bed and linens were very comfortable and our stay was restful. Everyone in the town was so hospitable, including Rob's assistant, Cassie. Thank you for making our trip to Oregon so special.

Room Tip: The corner suites are especially nice.
