“Old but good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2014

Stayed here last night on my way to and from Crater Lake.

The motel room is clean and.. wooden! Even the ceiling panels! Bed and the plethora of cushions is nice, internet once it was up and working was good too since the tv only has 6 channels (not their fault being in the boonies) but it would be nice to have an up to date tv and dvd instead of a vcr.

If you want clean and comfy for the night, give it a try!

Room Tip: is pet friendly

We were looking for a place to stay near Crater Lake. There aren't many choices in the area and this place had pretty decent ratings, so we stayed. Bad decision. It is an old place, which is fine. A kitchenette was advertised, but in reality it is a mini fridge and a microwave, not sure if that qualifies as a kitchenette..? The plumbing didn't work well at all. The tub water drained very slowly and the toilet plugged up. Couldn't find anyone at the front desk to get a plunger from, ended up having to use a hanger... yuck! All the chairs in the room were covered in funky stains, as was the carpet. The smell of cigarette smoke kept drifting in to the room even with the door and windows closed. And to top the experience off, I woke with a nasty spider bite on my arm. Couldn't wait to get out of there.
The owners seem nice enough, but I wish we would have just slept in our car.

Room Tip: Just keep driving.

If you are looking for a Courtyard or even a Holiday Inn Express, this isn't the place for you. The Whispering Pines Motel is old and worn and ragged, but the new owner is really nice and friendly and she serves a nice little continental breakfast. And this is the closest place to stay on the north side of Crater Lake National Park (at the junction of OR 138 and US 97...not exactly in the thriving met). Her new "puppy" is likely to visit you in your room if you leave the door open. We enjoyed a trip back to the days when dad drove us around the USA in our 1950 Plymouth. Call it an adventure.

My wife and I stayed here the night before spending a day in the park. Great location and very clean rooms.Yes, it is a look back to the days before the Hilton and Holiday Inn, but the new owner will break her back to make sure you have a pleasant stay. The fresh baked muffins with the coffee in the morning were excellent. A rustic motel in a convenient location, with a good cafe right across the street.

This rustic motel with mobile units behind it is not much to look at but if you like management that will go out of its way to meet your needs, check it out. We had just started for Crater Lake out of Bend, OR when we came across this gem. We would have skipped the motel in Bend and pressed on to Chemult the previous day had we known about it. Next time I'm touring, I'll certainly give it a try.

It is under new management as of mid-summer 2013 so earlier reviews may not apply. I hope those staying more recently will post.

Step back into the 50s. Wood paneling on the walls and ceiling, 12" TV/VCR combo (no TV reception but a VCR lending library), mini-fridge and microwave. Sheets and towels were clean. Convienent location to Crater Lake. This is what family travel used to be like and it was kinda fun. They didn't have our reservation when we arrived but had a room available (only one other room occupied) and the price was right.
It is outside of Chemult but the diner across the highway has good food.
