“Problem solved - quickly”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

When I checked into my room, the guests next door were very noisy - they were celebrating an anniversary. I was here for a relaxing vacation, so I asked the front desk if I could change rooms. Although the hotel was sold out for the night, the staff quickly moved us to a new room. The front desk staff member was kind and understanding. Problem solved. The hotel was clean and quiet and the staff was friendly and accommodating.

I am a light sleeper and was worried about the train. I requested (at booking) and received a room on the 4th floor. I heard the train once during the night the first night and never heard it again. Note: The train does not blow the whistle; it just rumbles along the tracks.

There are limited food options in Cascade Locks. We drove to Hood River for dinner each night. I can't imagine any hotel in Hood River being a better value than BW Columbia River Inn, and the views of the river are spectacular.

Also, first time visitors should buy the book Curious Gorge. The locals love it. We loved it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on 4th floor with a balcony facing the river.

First i'll start by explaining our stay here was very enjoyable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The looby inviting and the rooms in tip top shape. Our balcony overlooked the columbia and the view was spectacular. Now here could be the only down side, the train tracks, which are very active, are about 15 yards from the rooms. The hotel provides ear plugs but truthfully the clickity clack-clickity clack was calming. The complimentary breakfast was nothing fancy, but fresh and as a complimentary breakfast goes very good. All in all we had a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: If your a lite sleeper look for the ear plugs and the rooms higher up.

I had requested a room not near and elevator, or vending, and what did they do but put us in a room under the stairs, across from the elevator, vending and the breakfast room. On top of that, the sinks are out in the room area, not in the shower area, makes it difficult for those trying to sleep when others are getting ready. The worst nights sleep we had on a 2500 mile trip. The staff at the hotel were really great, not problem with them, really quite helpful. The location is great, the views are terrific, just not a good sleeping situation.

Room Tip: This location says they have a room with 2 queen beds, family room and Third king bed, don't be...

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in September.
I booked this hotel in Cascade Locks against the general advice to stay In Hood River, 20 miles East of Cascade Locks. I am a serious photographer and wanted to arrive at some locations before sunrise. I did not want to drive 20 miles in the early morning and wanted to be somewhere close to the Historic Highway.

That being said, about the hotel: we stayed in a room with 2 Queen Beds, a balcony and river view. It costed more to have a balcony but that's what people advised here. The bridge can be seen from the balcony and if you plan to stay in the room in the evening, you can probably take in the grand view. We did not stay in the room much and the balcony wasn't much value add.
The room also had a microwave And refrigerator both of which came in handy for some leftovers from a previous dinner.

Service: The staff were very courteous and helpful. The hotel provides a complimentary breakfast which we enjoyed the day we checked out. The food was as good as any local diner and there were a lot of options.
Unlike some big hotels who charge nickel and dime for everything except the room, the Best Western offers complimentary prints should you need any. They also provide complimentary local and long distance phone calls.

Location: Cascade Lock is a very small town, if it even can be called a town. The hotel is conveniently located on the only road where I saw some businesses. It is also just off the I-84.

All in all, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony and river view if you're planning to spend your evenings in the roo...

We chose this hotel primarily because of its reviews on TA and were not disappointed. We had a river view room with a balcony and it was wonderful. The staff was great and the views were amazing. The trains on either side of the river didn't seem to be a hassle - only one or two during the night. If you stay here head across the river into Stevenson for restaurants. We'd stay here again if we're back in the area.

My elderly aunt wanted to do a watercolor painting of the Columbia River. I called to make reservations and explained what we needed. We got the perfect room for her and the person who checked me in remembered our earlier discussion. On the water side, this motel is perfect for watching the river and all of the activity from the room. My aunt made some requests to the maid who went above and beyond to help her out--and then the maid said goodbye to her when we left the motel. The service we got was B&B quality--what a treat.

To get the view, the motel sits above a busy rail track and sound also carries across the river from the trains on the Washington side (no whistles). I'm a light sleeper and it didn't bother me with a white noise generator. You can also use the room fan or the ear plugs the motel provides. The location, service, comfortable bed and cleanliness make it worthwhile adjusting to the trains. And it is fun to watch them go by--yes, our country still depends on rail for commerce.

This is one of the best motels we've stayed in for quite a while. And the gorge is a special place.

Room Tip: The view/north rooms have train noise--the south side will have less train noise but are closer to I...

Great place to stay. good views, clean comfortable rooms. Very close to Hood River, and easy to access off I 84. All amenties included. Swim pool/hot tub were kept up, breakfast was better than most, and the room did have big flat screen TV, w/cable(incHBO).Close by food and spirits without driving made it a good choice. Location worked well for halfway point between Boise, and the coast. The only concern was the railroad tracks, and traffic at all times of day. Not too noticeable in room, but could affect light sleeper.
