“Excellent Stay!”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

My husband and I really enjoyed staying at the SurfSand Resort. We stayed in June of 2010, so I am quite tardy with this review, but even after a few years, we still look back fondly at the SurfSand Resort and consider it the best hotel we ever stayed in. At the time the rooms had been recently remodeled. We had one of the rooms on the bottom floor, which did not have a balcony, but the view from the window was still very nice and it was a lot less expensive than a room with a balcony. The room was clean, comfortable and modern with a gas fireplace and fridge. This room had a shower only (no tub), but that is what I like, so I was very happy with this. I am very picky about hotel bathrooms, and this bathroom exceeded my standards. It was super clean and luxurious. I believe my only complaint regarding our stay was limited parking. We are looking forward to going back again someday soon.

We stayed here one night on a vacation through Washington and Oregon. Not being from this part of the country, we had no idea how beautiful Cannon Beach was going to be. We were truly disappointed that we did not stay longer! We only arrived in the evening. We had time to through down our stuff and head over to the Wayfarer for dinner. Both our dinners were amazing. Then we asked our bartender if we could go watch the sunset on the beach and come back to finish up with dessert. The sunset was spectacular. I loved how the staff was building fires for the guests on the beach. The dessert back at the restaurant was also delicious. The room we stayed in was large, beautifully and newly renovated and very clean. The mattress was excellent. And who doesn't love a room with a fireplace? Although the beach was chilly for our liking, our short time at Cannon Beach and Surfsand Resort was the highlight of our whole vacation! I hope we can go back on day and stay longer!

We look forward to you coming back and taking advantage of a bonfire on the beach, more delicious meals, and a romantic get away at the Surfsand Resort. It may have been a short stay, but the memory is for a lifetime. Cheers, Jerry W. Martin.

We were down there for a wedding on 7/20, and the only cons my husband & I have is the shower is a little small & the pillows were a little too squishy for us, but other than that, everything else was above par. They view was wonderful, the rooms are very quiet. Very quick service with very polite staff. The bonfires were nice, but a little too smoky for me.

Our family of four + dog stayed here overnight in a King ocean front suite and it was wonderful.

Make no mistake, it's pricey but you get what you pay for. There are all sorts of cheaper options so if you're not looking to spend extra for a deluxe experience, this isn't the place for you.

From the moment we called the service was impeccable. The staff was super friendly and bent some rules to let us stay in the suite with our dog (some rooms are designated no pets). When we arrived our dogs name was on a welcome board complete with a little welcome bag of treats. The kids got beach buckets and cookies too. Kids also eat free breakfast and lunch at the on-property restaurant ($5 value). There are kids activities too.

The room is awesome. A pet bed and bowls were already in. Balcony right on the beach. Giant soaking tub and walk in shower. Sleeper sofa, multiple flat screens, DVD player with a large complimentary library at the front desk and best of all, incredible tempurpedic king size bed for the adults. Best night of sleep yet on the road trip. Free wifi.

The kids loved the indoor pool which was surprisingly warm. The staff will setup beach chairs, umbrella and wind screen on the sand which was great. The beach is huge, awesome for dogs. Walk to the rock at low tide to see starfish and anemones.

It's pricey but we'd stay here again in a heartbeat. I wish we could stay longer but we've got a lot more ground to cover on this road trip.

Camp fires on the beach at night is loads of fun and unique, but fill beach-facing rooms receive smoke smell. Folks with breathing difficulty might find this problematic. Very good view of large beach, haystacks, and whales feeding off shore. Location is a 10 minute walk to downtown restaurants. Condition of pool and workout room are a bit rough when compared to other larger hotels. Good for 2 day stay.

Room Tip: The primary reason to stay here is for beach/ocean-facing.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us at the Surfsand. Bonfires are a great aspect of the beach at night and we apologize for the unintended smoke. Cannon Beach is a wonderful town to visit and we thank you for staying with us. Cheers, Jerry W. Martin.

This was our second stay at the Surfsand Resort. To be honest, I cringe a little at how expensive it is, but overall we love it.
Great for families. Worthwhile if you take advantage of all the resort has to offer- indoor pool if it's cold/ rainy, evening bonfires, movies, etc.

Room Tip: Oceanview for sure

Yes, the location is the main attribute for this hotel and some may feel it is not worth the extra cost. It depends on how much value one places on the little deails that a hotel like this offers. We stayed in a beachfront room that looked right out onto the beach with a great view of Haystack Rock to the left from the terrace. My husband, feels this makes it all worth it and would not hesitate to stay here again not just for the desirable view, but also for the great kid friendly pool and all the little extras like the welcome beach buckets and evening toys for the kids, the bonfire service and delicious cookies in the afternoon.

I would have enjoyed our stay much more if the layout of our one bedroom suite had been a little more "sleeper friendly", as the noise from the walkway in the morning is bothersome. It also feels a little too dark and claustrophobic, especially compared to the living room. Given the constraints of trying to fit in as many rooms in the building as possible with a view, I understand why the bedroom is situated as it is, but I did take off a star for this.

Something that really impressed me was how quick the housekeeping staff were to clean our rooms in the morning. We recently stayed in another hotel where, after returning hot and tired from being out all day, we would find the room was not cleaned and the staff would be just getting to us soon after we returned. This was very irritating and has caused me to appreciate staff that take their responsibilities seriously and who keep the comfort of the guest in mind.

From our family to yours, we are glad that you enjoyed your stay. The view is certainly something that makes a great memory. I am also happy to know that you were able to enjoy cabana service, milk and cookies, and good house keeping. Kid’s are always a delight at the Surfsand, and we love to take care of them well. Rooms are a tricky thing, thank you for understanding the challenge. We look forward to seeing you again, Jerry W. Martin.
