Beautiful location on Portland coast. Restaurant on site was great - delicious meals and excellent service. There were many activities we could have done at the hotel but we were only there one night. We had a restricted view window in our room, but it was beautiful even though the weather was bad.

I was in Cannon Beach for a conference June 17-21 and we loved the Surfsand. The Room we very spacious and clean. We had a great view of Haystack Rock and the beach was just steps away. The hotel sets up a bonfire every night and they even gave us blankets! They also had milk and hot, fresh cookies at 3 PM. The front desk staff was very friendly and gave us great advise about local restaurants. I would definitely stay here again.

My daughter and I stayed here on June 19th. We wanted to spend one day at the beach before heading into Portland. As other reviews note this resort is right on the beach with haystack rock just to the left, so the location is almost perfect. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful - this was especially appreciated since we were tired after a long drive. We had an ocean view with a tempua pedic bed, a gas fireplace, beautifully furnished bathroom with phone and TV. The staff builds a fire on the beach each night and provides individual smore fixings. The topper was when I forgot my charger for my iPhone 5 at the resort. I called them, they found my charger and shipped it to my home. This resort has earned 5 stars from me. I LOVED this place and look forward to returning someday!

I am so glad that you and your daughter had an enjoyable stay together and that our staff and location could be part of that experience. Phone chargers are the most commonly lost item left in rooms, glad we could return that to you.

Thank you

We came to Cannon Beach because of a photo of the view from Ecola State Park in an English newspaper and to be able to find a hotel on the beach looking straight out to Haystack Rock and the Pacific was perfect. The view is amazing and to be able to just wander out to Haystack along the beach in a few minutes was idyllic; the rockpools and rocks around Haystack are packed with marine life at low-tide including amazingly bright-coloured starfish and to see puffins trying to land on Haystack with thousands of other birds was enthralling.
We opted for a suite with terrace overlooking the beach to maximise our Haystack viewing opportunities and it did not disappoint: a large living room with a full window onto the beach; it had comfortable sofas, a large bathroom with both bath and shower (and a sliding door to look out from the bath towards the ocean, if you desired) and a smaller bedroom at the back of the suite, but with very comfortable bed. Perhaps you could complain that you couldn't hear the sea from the bedroom but it makes sense to maximise the space for viewing Haystack!
The furnishings and decor may be starting to tire a little but this was a minor point and did not affect our enjoyment (the door to the balcony/terrace was a bit sticky). The terrace was also perfect for having breakfast and watching the sun go down with a glass of wine.
As well as having the view, the hotel is well located to walk to the main shopping and restaurant area within 10 to 20 minutes along either the beach or the road. There is a small grocery store and coffee shop a minute or two away as well as a few other stores.
The Hotel Reception was quite difficult to find, with small signage (probably a good thing) and we did drive around a few minutes trying to find it. There is also a smaller adjacent hotel to Surfsand and there is an ageing wire-fence that divides the two proprties that could do with replacing or removing as it (only very) marginally spoils the Haystack view
Staff were mostly very friendly and helpful and we were very impressed with the quick engineer call-out response late at night when a fuse blew and put part of the suite into darkness. It took a while to sort out but the engineer persisted until he had found the problem and got our lights back on.
We were also impressed that the hotel runs an on-call shuttle to and from its sister restaurants, one in town and the other further along the beach in the opposite drection (the Stephanie Inn restaurant was excellent).
The hotel's on-site restaurant, The Wayfarer, is in a separate building with some views out to Haywtack. The food was fine though the service was a little odd (very friendly but a little too enthusiastic and we had a weird 10 minutes or so while our server went back and forth to the kitchen to determine whether the oysters I had ordered were on or off the menu - had the oyster season ended?)
We also enjoyed a half hour swim in the on-site indoor pool (which we had to ourselves one morning). There was also a small onsite gym.
Overall we had a wonderful couple of days at Surfsand and Cannon Beach; it was everything we could have hoped for and we would love to be able to come back one day and see Haystack once again!

I have stayed at the surfsand a few times and I always come back! The views from this resort are amazing, haystack rock is right out your front door! The hotel is right on the beach so you are lulled to sleep and awoken by the ocean sound. All the rooms have a tempura pedic beds, a good bed is a must for a vacation! I would opt for the new addition, I've stayed in both. The bathroom and bedrooms are much nicer, but you give up the upfront haystack rock view for one of just the ocean!

It is amazing how comforting the sound of the ocean can be after a restful night’s sleep. Our oceanfront building has great views towards the light house and Tillamook Head. Thank you for taking the time to review the Surfsand Resort.

See you soon,
Jerry W. Martin
