“Beware of Room 136”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

Visions of John Candy's movie, "Summer Rental" struck me during my first night at the Hallmark Resort. We were right beside the only beach access for the hotel, and were privy to migrations of pedestrian beach traffic during the evening and night and much of the morning. I was pleased the staff was able to ameliorate our billing on our departure. The hotel was very beautiful with the best view of Haystack Rock and we will definitely return for another visit - just not to Rm 136.

Dear Nomadhunter,
Please accept my apologies for the noise from the beach stairs. This time of year there can be a lot of guests headed to the beach. I'm happy to see our front desk staff responded to your inconvenience and I'm delighted to hear you will be back. We look forward to seeing you the next time you visit Cannon Beach.
Sincerely,

This was our second visit to this resort and we elected to stay in the Hallmark Suites which are approx one block from the main resort and have larger rooms. The suite had a queen size bed in a separate bedroom and a king size bed in the main room. The king bed was separated from the family area by a short wall and there was a sofa in the family area. There was also a kitchenette (that was well stocked with cookware, plates, glasses, utensils, dish soap, paper towels, regular size refrigerator, and cooktop) and gas fireplace in the room which both came in handy during our visit. It was a bit cool during our visit in July and after playing in the cold ocean, it was very cozy to warm up by the fireplace. The bath amentities are fabulous. There are bath crystals provided for enjoying in the large soaker tub and the bath soap smells like orange dreamsicles. Make-up towelettes are also provided and their use is discouraged so as to not stain the towels. (I really dislike stained towels -- so the hotel got bonus points for providing these!). One downside is that the shower is small. We had a partial view of Haystack rock and the ocean from the balcony of our 502 room. There is a nice pool and hottub located in a building right by the Hallmark Suites so you don't have to walk up to the main resort facilities to enjoy those features. Also if you forget to bring your sand bucket and shovel, just ask at the front desk. They provide those and beach blankets. The beach gets cool, so be sure to bring your own warm jacket. If you're looking for good food at a reasonable price while in the area, check out Mo's which is a short distance from the hotel. I traveled with my husband, teenage daughter, and middle-school daughter and they all loved this hotel. It is a bit pricy but you're paying for the area, view, and ambience.

Dear Diane_1964,
I'm delighted you and the family enjoyed the Hallmark Suites. I think they are a great value in Cannon Beach. I agree it's convenient to have an indoor heated pool right there and since you are just across the street from the beach, sand between your toes is only steps away. Thank you for making the Hallmark Resort & Spa a tradition when you visit the Oregon coast and we look forward to seeing you the next time.
Sincerely,

We LOVED this room! The view is spectacular! This resort is closest to Haystack rock. It was spacious and recently renovated. The beds were very cozy. We particularly liked the full kitchen, which was convenient when traveling with a family with small kids. The only very small negative was the small bathroom. We loved this resort so much we are already planning out 2014 trip! Kudos Hallmark Resort!

We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at this hotel. Our 2nd floor waterfront queen room looked out on the beach and Haystack Rock. It was a quick and easy trek down the stairs to the beach, where we could walk for miles in either direction. The bed was comfy. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the afternoon sun, watching the sunset, then later enjoying the beach bonfires from afar.

We'll be back -- looking forward to watching an ocean storm roll in one day!

Room Tip: Top floor ocean view will be quietest and have the most amazing views

Dear mkm_mom,
Thank you for the review. I'm delighted you enjoyed the fantastic views and the comfy bed. Our beds are referred to as a major hotel chain's "Heavenly Bed" on steroids. Thank you for choosing the Hallmark Resort & Spa and we look forward to seeing you the next time you visit Cannon Beach.

Stayed 2 nights in a queen waterfront view room. The view of Haystack Rock was amazing! The deck was large, furnished with 2 chairs and small table. As we we on an end, we appreciated that the "wall" was clear acrylic, rather than solid, so the view was maintained throughout.

This was a recently renovated room, equipped with a very comfortable bed, new chairs, tables, lamps outfitted with extra outlets-plenty of charging stations for several gadgets.

So many upgrades, that the old things REALLY stood out: old, stained hinges on the bathroom door, yellowed heat lamp casing in the bathroom, light switch plate in the bathroom, and especially the dented, rusted heat vent in the main room. These few items detracted from the beauty of the very-well-done upgrades.

Room was supplied with outstanding locally roasted coffee and coffee maker as well as a mini fridge. We enjoyed the gas fireplace operated on a timer.

Heated pool was nice. Didn't have opportunity to try the hot tub. One was out of order, the other was overtaken by a family who never left! The sauna was nice, though small. We did not examine the fitness facility.

Check-in was easy, though we arrived after the warm cookie time. Once in our room, we remembered reading on facebook about Sunday night bonfire. We called to the desk to find that staff would prepare a beach fire, supply blankets, chairs, sticks and marshmallows. It was an enjoyable time to spend on the beach, which we'd have missed had we not taken it on ourselves to ask. The staff in training perhaps could be trained on the details.

Their website says the outside renovations are complete, but the walkway covering looks old and frayed, enough that wheeled luggage hung on it in a couple of places.

There is no on-site restaurant, but it is close to food and shops.

We look forward to returning to this property in the future.

Room Tip: Southernmost rooms are closer to Haystack Rock.

Dear DALLAS S,
I'm delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and I appreciate your candid review. We had a very aggressive renovation schedule this year and we fell slightly behind. One building, the roof, and all the exterior carpets had to be postponed until fall. Come October, we will pick up the projects and have them completed by next year. The heaters in the renovated guestrooms are also scheduled for replacement. Thank you for choosing the Hallmark Resort & Spa and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Sincerely,
Kirby Blankenship

This location is simply amazing. Loved every minute of soaking in the scenery. The hotel, although a bit outdated, was lovely with ocean views and a perfect balcony for morning coffee. Perfect for families or quiet couple getaway. Went in June it was a bit chilly (ok, sweatshirts everyday) but loved every minute. Loved that the resort was not right on top of another. Great for walking to stores and restaurants but still quiet and private.

Dear andirincon,
I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at the Hallmark Resort & Spa. I'm sorry you did not get to experience one of our newly renovated guestrooms. We had planned to have the entire resort completely remodeled by the end of June, but delays in the beginning have pushed the final building's renovation to the fall. When you return you will discover a fresh, new look in every guest room. Thank you for your business and we look forward to seeing you the next time you visit Oregon.
Sincerely,
Kirby Blankenship

We only stayed 1 night at the Hallmark, but enjoyed it very much. Our room was fabulous! A fireplace, balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Haystack Rock, and a jacuzzi tub. Firewood provided for a campfire on the beach, along with chairs. Refrigerator and coffee maker. Within walking distance to a nice restaurant. Hot, baked chocolate chip cookies on check-in. Hotel staff at check-in could have been a little more attentive, but I would definitely stay here again.
