“Great surfside cabin”
Reviewed April 26, 2011

We came for surfing and were able to walk from the hotel to the surf board rental shop and the Sleeping Monk cafe right to the surf at the haystack. Great value, and the hotel was very accommodating of a late check-out so we could shower after our early morning surf.

This was our second time at the Cannon Beach Hotel, and again, it was a perfect visit. It's a charming hotel, with beautiful rooms - most with views of the ocean. The interior design is a la Pottery Barn (earth tones, tasteful), and soooo comfortable. Our breakfast was good, too, as a European-style buffet in a cafe downstairs.

I've been to Cannon Beach every year for the past 20+ years. After staying at many different hotels and inns, this is my new favorite! My husband loved it too. We always look for charming, non-chain, & budget-friendly places to stay on vacations and this definitely fit the bill! We went on a summer weekend which is the high season, and paid around $130/night. Don't forget to sign up for the "new visitor bonus" on the website, it will save you $20!

It's a short, maybe 10-minute walk into town on the main street, or you can take the scenic route along the beach which will take a little bit longer. I'd say the hotel is equidistant between downtown C.B. and Haystack Rock - perfect. Walkability is important to us as we enjoy a good day of local beers and/or wine!

When you walk into the hotel, you'll see the big fireplace, comfy couches and check-in desk. The staff was nice and we love the fruit bowl in the lobby, and free saltwater taffy at the counter!!

I believe we stayed in room #4. It had a full size bed and was tiny, but so charming with bright windows, Cannon Beach style decor, and had everything we needed. It was a short block to the beach and has a great restaurant behind the hotel. I am giving this hotel only 4 stars because the service at the Hotel Cafe was awful. We chalked it up to the busy season and enjoyed a coffee in the sunshine while we waited the 30+ minutes for our complimentary breakfast.

Other than that, everything was wonderful. We will DEFINITELY go back. Don't miss this hotel!! It's the perfect place for a romantic weekend.

The hotel was built in 1913 and has been beautifully updated. The staff was friendly and helpful. As soon as you walk in you know this is a special place. The room and bath were tastefully decorated and do look like the pictures provided on the hotel site. . We enjoyed the gas fireplace and plush robes that were provided. A continental breakfast was included in a very reasonable special fall rate.

We booked the Cannon Beach Hotel by phone. Everything was great and we were very pleased with our choice.

We were satisfied with the location and the rate given. While researching accommodations we found Cannon Beach in general to be quite expensive. We felt the CB Hotel was a good, affordable option for us. One thing to note is your credit card will be charged in full upon booking, and you should read the cancellation policy closely. This suited us fine because we were committed to our dates, but it is something to be aware of.

The hotel is within easy walking distance of everything in CB and is 1 block from the beach. The rooms were clean and cozy, with a comfortable bed and good quality linens. The décor is very pleasant. It was exactly as portrayed on the website. The CB Hotel manages several properties, the Hotel is best suited for adults without pets. This is what we were looking for. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms, which was fine for us, and very comfortable. As others have mentioned, the shower is quite small. It’s a shower-head with a circular curtain and feels quite tiny, but works perfectly fine. I only mention it because my (tall) husband felt a little claustrophobic in the shower but it didn’t bother me at all.

The café downstairs is convenient for breakfast. A complimentary continental breakfast (fresh fruit salad and pastry with coffee or tea) is included, or you can upgrade to a full American breakfast for $2.00. The fruit was tasty, the pastries are not terribly good quality, but it was fine for 2 mornings. The lady who works in the café is really nice and goes out of her way to be helpful. Complimentary coffee and tea are always available in the lobby, along with fruit, salt water taffy, and squares in the afternoon. We found everyone who worked at the front desk to be friendly and helpful.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Cannon Beach and would stay at the Cannon Beach Hotel again.

I have to say that this has been my worst hotel experience as an adult (and I have stayed at many hotels/inns across the US and abroad). I was looking for a quaint, small, tasteful inn/hotel on the coast and thought this would be a perfect fit. Boy, was I wrong!
As the previous reviewer mentioned, the staff at the front desk - all three whom we interacted with during our stay - were cold, uninterested, and even appeared annoyed at times. My niece, who was visiting us all the way from Atlanta, even said "that lady at the front desk is 'mean' (the woman had a "matter-of-fact" tone). Later, one of the staff was rolling her eyes(!) and sighing(!) as she spoke with a potential guest on the phone (she was having to explain that there was no availability at any of their properties). Even if she had a reason to be annoyed, you SHOULD NEVER look that exasperated in front of your hotel guests!!!! Talk about unprofessional...
When I checked in, I explained that there would be three people staying in our room instead of 2 (the room fit up to 4). The staff said, "I'll be sure to bring up an extra set of towels, they're in the dryer right now." Great! Well, the towels never arrived and in the evening, we asked someone else at the front desk about it - she said "sure no problem", then called back 15 min later stating, "I'll have to go to one of our other properties to find some towels." THEN, later that night, STILL NO TOWELS!!!!! I didn't even bother trying to call again. The NEXT night, they put an extra obviously OLD STRIPPED BEACH TOWEL in our room - NO hand towel either! AND, one of the 2 standard white bath towels had A BIG WHOLE/RIP IN IT! We skipped showers that 2nd morning and waited until we got back home to Portland.
Also, I became very wary of the cleanliness of the place when we arrived after finding TWO TOENAIL CLIPPINGS in corners of the bathroom. Disgusting! I decided not to walk around barefoot in the room at all. The carpet was also pretty stained, though I would expect that since everyone probably tracks in sand/dirt, etc. At least the bed linens seemed clean...
Even the restaurant next door was disappointing. The poor frazzled hostess/waitress was running around trying to take orders, bring out water, plates, orange juice needed squeezing, etc. They were trying their best, but all the various guests were waiting a long time - in line to order, for their water, for their food....my husband and niece finally got their orange juice about 1/2 way through their breakfast (someone had to squeeze more juice). My husband got a scone that tasted soggy and 1/2 baked. We went somewhere else for breakfast the next morning - didn't even bother redeeming our 'breakfast vouchers' from the hotel.
Needless to say, I will never be staying at this hotel (or trying any of its other three properties) the next time I'm in Cannon Beach!

This group of three Inns was listed as "small charming Inns in the heart of Cannon Beach" in the National Geographic Guide to Weekend Getaways. This Inn has the potential to be charming, however the staff was generally indifferent, the hall were not clean during our stay, our room had a broken shade and an unfinished repair on the shower wall. The food in the hotel restaurant was poor.
This was an anniversary trip for us and this was the low point of an otherwise very good trip.
