Owner description: The Coaster Theatre Playhouse has entertained thousands of visitors and locals of Cannon Beach and Oregon's North Coast. Maurie Clark opened the Coaster Theatre in 1972. He supported it with his time, talent and financial resources. Upon his death in 2001, the Coaster Theatre became a not-for-profit theatre. Each year the Coaster Theatre produces 5 plays and 2 musicals as well as inspiring young actors with our Coaster Kidz spring, summer and winter camps. With the support of our wonderful volunteers, sponsors, donors and patrons we will continue to offer quality community theatre in the heart of Cannon Beach.

“See quality live theatre at the Coaster”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2012

When planning a trip to Cannon Beach, I check both the weather forecast and what's playing at the Coaster Theatre since nightlife is almost nonexistent except for this live theater. This is their 40th Anniversary Year. Prior to this playhouse the site was a Coaster Roller Rink. Each of the many plays I've seen here was well done. Every season offers a good variety of classic and newer plays or musicals. This time I wanted to see Arsenic and Old Lace. Last time I enjoyed Butterflies are Free. Stage sets and acting are first-rate.

Plays are performed Wednesday through Sunday evenings. If you call the box office (503-436-1242 that opens at 1 pm) they'll hold seats for you and you'll pay when you arrive. The theatre is small enough that most any seat affords good sight and sound. During intermission you can buy homemade cookies for $1. This non-profit community theatre is a wonderful way to spend an artsy evening after a day at the beach.

For a small coast theater I was pleasantly surprised to see a packed house and an amazing show. The performers were top notch with a lot of energy. So glad we came to a show!!

“Good fun”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2012

The Coaster Theatre is pretty much the only thing resembling nightlife in Cannon Beach. We saw Arsenic and Old Lace, which was pretty well produced and acted - especially considering the theater is essentially a volunteer operation! Tickets are very cheap and all the seats offer a great view.

Altogether it made for a fun night out. Definitely try to see a production if you're staying in Cannon Beach.

I've seen at least four plays here over the years since 1986, I just love going to see the Christmas play!

“Always a Top Production!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2012

My husband and I went to see Arsenic and Old Lace last night. As always, we thoroughly enjoyed the play! Now it's time to make our reservation for the next play, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, followed by A Week of Augusts.

Guests to the area: Be sure to include a play at the Coaster Theatre into your plans. You won't regret it!
