As a couple, we visit Cannon Beach, Oregon, several times per year. I thought we had dined at every restaurant in this small beach community, but we had actually missed out on the best restaurant in Cannon Beach.....The Wayfarer Restaurant and Lounge.
Terrific ambience with huge windows looking out at the sea. The first night, we each ordered a filet mignon, and the steaks were amazing. We were so pleased that we returned the next night, and this time we ordered fresh grilled halibut. Delicious! Both meals were cooked to perfection, served by an excellent waiter. It should be noted that The Wayfarer is not a restaurant where you will find customers wearing tank tops, swimming suits, or flip flops. You must be 'presentable' to dine at this restaurant. I mention this because at most 'beach' type restaurants you might see any kind of clothing worn. It would be unlikely to find children running here and there, or boistrous, loud talking. The Wayfarer is a very nice restaurant to have a quiet, relaxing dinner, perhaps with a glass of wine. Don't miss this one.

Over many years coming to Cannon Beach I have eaten at the Wayfarer numerous times and personally have always enjoyed it - food, service and view. On this occasion my wife and I both had fresh Chinook salmon two different ways - she had it with a Bearnaise sauce and I with a Pinot Noir reduction sauce. Both preparations were outstanding and I say this with confidence in that we are both "salmon snobs". We cook and eat it at home at least once a week. The wild rice and vegetables that came with the salmon were excellent. We also had an appetizer we had never had before and that was deep fried avocado slices - delicious!

The service was also excellent, as we we fortunate to be served by "Cindy" who did an outstanding job, so if she's working as for her section.

We were happy to hear you enjoyed our Chef's locally caught Chinook Salmon Oscar and Pinot Noir Salmon, paired with a wonderful local Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, Pete's Mountain. We hope you come back again soon for some fresh seafood, our spectacular view and another order of our Avocado Fingers.

In the past, I probably would have added a star to the rating. This time, not so good. Service really poor and the food only passable.

We were sorry to hear your most recent visit to the Wayfarer did not meet your expectations. That level of service is not what we strive for, and our Chefs take great pride in our fresh local ingredients. We hope you choose to give us another try on your next visit to the coast.

Salmon was the specialty of the day. Smoked salmon covered with bits of crab, wild rice, asparagus and covered in bearnaise sauce-yum. Great service.

The Wayfarer Restaurant definitely has good food. The salads are fresh and delicious. The clam chowder is very rich and creamy. The entrees are great and come with fresh veggies and sides. But, most entrees are in $25 to $38 and a dinner for two will be close to or over $100. We each had a bowl of clam chowder and a side salad and no drinks and just this small meal was $35. So while you will enjoy the food and it will be good, just be prepared to pay $$$. We have had their desserts as well, and I must admit they are very good, too.
