“Downright confusing”
Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

Before coming here for dinner I had read the previous reviews, but figured I'd give them a chance... What a mistake. This place has good food. However many of their side items are institutionalized and are not made from scratch as one would expect when paying $40 for a steak. The prices are a bit outrageous, even for a tourist market. The real downfall of this place is their organization. They are trying to be a gourmet restaurant, but are more like a Denny's. For starters families are sat in the bar area, next to couples trying to enjoy a nice night at the beach. The staff runs around with no purpose and no motivation. The service was terrible and we waited atleast 20 minutes for our check after the server disappeared. For the price of dinner here a couple could eat 3 meals at different places with much better service.

I am glad that the food was good for you, our chef’s pride themselves with preparing all of our side dishes except our fries during the lunch and dinner meal periods. I am so sorry, we set our standards much higher than the service you have described and would like to let you know that we will follow up with our staff about following through with the details of a visit that can make or break your level of customer satisfaction.

“Time warp rip off w/ institutional food!”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

While the menu looked promising, the execution of most all dishes was really bad. The kitchen shows "no love" and the ingredients were highly institutional. Portland has great food and kitchens there have enlightened chefs making tasty, modern food at all price points. Meanwhile, this joint is stuck in a time warp, and it's "tourist high pricing". I guess they figure most guests won't be back, so there is little reason to make good food.

We pride ourselves on the food that we provide, the chef’s and front of the house management team strive for the best quality and prepared meals. We do have a large following of repeat guest from all over the Northwest as well as local to the North Coast.

I am sorry that this was not the experience that you had.

“Super delicious ravioli”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

The mushroom ravioli were outstanding. The view was very nice, if you sit near the window you can see the impressive Haystack Rock.
Service was friendly, would definitely return, altough prices are a bit high.

“Poor service”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Let me start off by saying we have visited this restaurant many times in years past and have been very pleased. I am not quite sure what happened this year, but we visited the Wayfarer twice this week and needless to say, the review is consistent with both occasions. Everything from poor service- asking several times for our server to come back to the table, to witnessing people walking out of the restaurant because no one had greeted them for 15 minutes is the basis for this review. We witnessed the bartender itch her nose then stick her dirty hand into the olive jar to refill the olive container for the bar- totally grossed out. We saw people waiting for a table at the bar only to have the hostess set "reserved" signs on tables that took 20 minutes to be bussed. It was painful to watch. There was no sign of a front of house manager. Mind you, we came in from 3-5 p.m. during their SLOW time of day. I literally wanted to start bussing tables and greeting guests that had been waiting for servers to either greet them or check on them to offer them another drink. This is not the Wayfarer restaurant I know and remember. What is unfortunate, is that this is by far the most upscale restaurant in Cannon Beach. The wait/buss and wait staff could make a killing in tips with a little hustle and pride in their work as Cannon Beach clientele would pay for this type of service. As someone who has worked in the service industry, it bothered me to watch the apathy at this restaurant. I will think twice before visiting here again- such a shame.
