“Delightful in every way”

Our group of eight ladies on a bridge getaway had a fantastic time at Stephanie Inn.....thanks to the wonderful service by everyone from the reservations agent to the housekeeping staff, the wait staff, and the very accommodating shuttle driver.
In addition to the excellent and friendly service, the Stephanie Inn is exceptional for its ideal location on the beach, beautiful decor, comfortable rooms, and delightful amenities. (freshly baked cookies, complimentary wine and cheese, and nightcaps in the library)
Don't miss the fine dinner -- a fabulous five course gourmet treat. And breakfast is great, too, with delicious hot dishes as well as fresh fruit and wonderful breads.
Yes, this place is pricey but it is worth it if you want a truly outstanding experience.

  • Liked — The great location and the wonderful service.

What a pleasure it is to stay at the Stephanie Inn! My husband’s family has been going to Cannon Beach for years now and always seen the Stephanie Inn but never stayed there. Last fall, when my husband and I got married, we found the perfect excuse to stay there…our honeymoon. We were only able to afford two nights there at the end of our honeymoon and boy! Was that the best way to end a honeymoon.
Every afternoon, they have a wine tasting in the library. While sampling some of the finest wines the Northwest has to offer, you can gaze out the huge bay windows onto Cannon Beach and see haystack rock. It’s just gorgeous!
In the evenings, they have a night-cap. The selection here changes every night! And if you aren’t much of a drinker, that’s ok. There is coffee, tea and hot cocoa ready for you in the lobby at all hours. It’s changed every few hours so that it stays fresh. They also ALWAYS have fresh baked cookies in a cookie jar for you to raid until your heart’s content. And they are delicious!
In the room you will find a warm, comfy bed in front of a gas fire place. The bathroom is quite spacious. Every room has a Jacuzzi style tub, (bubble bath for sale in the lobby).
In the morning, you don’t have to worry about finding a nice little breakfast place, because you just have to go upstairs. The breakfasts are out of this world! They are an ever changing array of fresh, healthy and scrumptious delights.
When it comes to details, you can’t beat the Stephanie Inn! They have every little thing placed just so and the staff goes out of their way to make your stay the best you’ve ever had. We will definitely be back…for many years to come. (My husband and I often wish that we had the time to go back every weekend.)
It is worth every single penny and so much more! I know of several other places that charge comparable rates for less than half of the service. Also, unlike a lot of places, if you go to the website, what you see is exactly what you get. If you’re ever in the Portland area, go! If you don’t have plans to be in the Portland area, go just for this. It’s the perfect way to relax your cares away!

Our first impression of the Inn was really exceptional. They have a terrific location and the staff is really welcoming. The room was very well done. We were able to kick back and watch videos in our room each evening. The trip would have been perfect except for the elephants above us and the plumbing that was so loud that it woke us each morning when the 55+ age group got up and got ready for breakfast at 7:30. We would have enjoyed two more hours of sleep. The pampering and luxury lacks luster when you are rudely awakened each morning. For this reason we didn’t feel it was worth the $200+ each night.

We really enjoy our stays at Stephanie Inn. We have stayed in several different accommodations there and always enjoy our stays. Have recommended this place to many people and have always heard nothing but positive remarks.

Our last stay was in room #115 and cannot believe that another poster heard the clock inside the room. We had been forewarned by someone who read the poster's comments regarding the clock and room #115 but we could not hear it inside the room and we are very light sleepers; I must admit we have checked out early at other accommodations due to sounds that kept us from sleeping.

The breakfast is the best we have had, in fact we have asked for some of their recipes. I love fruit and melons for breakfast and I haven't found any place that has such a variety and the sausages and bacon that they special order are out of this world.

The staff is what makes the place special, and that you are pampered are some of the remarks that have been made by me and to me from others that I recommended to this hotel.

Sure, The Stephanie is spitting distance from the beach and Haystack Rock, but it doesn't matter. Even without those natural wonders, this hotel is one of Oregon's finest. The rooms, the dining, the service, the lounge, the wine tasting, the cookies ... each are unparalleled. AND there's an incredible view and sandy fun steps away.

I will never come back to this hotel. For USD $350.00, we got a terrible room (Rm. 115, FYI) that was so noisy we might as well have been in Times Square. There is a grandfather clock outside the room that chimes every half hour and hour. Above our heads we could hear furniture moving and loud banging at one a.m. Romm 115 is just by the lobby so it is pretty loud all the time. The noise was unacceptable for the price. And it was the cheapest room!

I do not mind noisy rooms as long as I don't pay through the nose for them.

Besides the noise, the staff is super friendly, and food good (but the breakfast is not as great as they make it sound), and the beach is spectacular. However, next time we will be staying next door at the Ocean Lodge, which is cheaper, has the same views and comfort.

I recommend the Stephanie Inn for the following reasons:

a. we were seeking a winter beach retreat that is directly on the beach, so that we could enjoy the beach even during storms. We wanted to insure beauty, comfort , and delicious food on our long-overdue vacation. Also, a place that was NOT "pet friendly" and cigarette friendly/ A quiet place to relax, read, and be together and be near plenty of beautiful natural surroundings for long walks and great views---in this respect the Stephanie Inn surely delivered. Oregon beaches are incredible, and this is a special one, fantastic state parks abound right near by. The town of Cannon Beach is very pleasant with some nice places to eat. Shopping is not a draw for me, so I can't comment on that.

b. OK, we are 55 years old and our children are finally both adults ...and, frankly, we are over-exhausted with too much work, not enough relaxation, so, it was a pleasure to know we were unlikely to hear temper trantrums or toddlers wailing. It was a pleasure to know that dogs wouldn't be barking next door or bounding up to become too up-close and personal without being invited.

c. Loved the quiet rooms, the incredible views of the ocean and Haystock Rock (won't see this at very many Cannon Beach hotels from your room), the ability to walk out on the beach from our groundfloor room, keep the window open and hear the surf while we slept, have a gas log fireplace in the room with a comfortable king bed and spacious bathroom with jacuzzi, and the 4:30 p.m.complimentary wine each day, where there was an opportunity to be social in the beautiful ocean front common room, great food at the Inn and access to other great places to eat, such as the ability to walk just down the street to the great Warren Street Pub.

Negatives? I disagree with the young business traveler's review. I didn't get the sense that a bunch of far rightwingers hold forth as guests at this establishment. We certainly don't fit that description, quite the opposite, it so happens. It sounds like a stereotypical remark. I didn't get the sense, though wasn't really interested in politely inquiring, either, that other guests would have been raging political foes.
Of course, the demographics of a fairly expensive place like this, might mean that, if one is not on an expense account, that one has either splurged for a special time together (as we did) or one is in the habit of splurging regularly. The guests appeared somewhat diverse in a mostly, but not exclusively, over 50's kind of way. Anyway, rigidity is not necessarily the province of people over 50.
But, no, there is not a youthful ambience at this establishment. Does that EXIST in Cannon Beach?
Anyway, one can safely say that Cannon Beach is not Virginia Beach.

Only one other negative: After three nights there, the last day when we were checking out, for some inane reason, the housekeeping staff had their mobile radios turned up to a deafening level to communicate with each other, yet they were young and did not seem hard of hearing. This seemed a little out of kilter with the overall ambience of the place, which was generally very enjoyable.

  • Liked — The setting on the beach is outstanding
  • Disliked — Staff very loud and obtrusive on one occasion
  • Tips/Secrets — If you are 55 "or better---(their term)" they have a "Golden Sand Dollar rate" much of the time, which may beat other discounts
