“Intimate & Cozy! Great for Couples & Small Families!”
Reviewed October 13, 2011

My husband and I went here for our 1 yr Anniversary and the staff was so helpful in fitting us in for 3 nights, with only 2 weeks notice at the end of prime season when they were booked solid.
We stayed on the main floor Room 112 and it was fab! Our back door opened up to the back deck that had the cutest adirondack chairs to sit in and enjoy the ocean air and view of the waves and haystack rock (great access to walk to the rock too and check out all the tidepools with marine life). It was so relaxing and being 6 months pregnant loved being able to walk right out our backdoor to the beach access. it was most ideal. For others maybe the room above 212 would be more ideal if you're big on a better view of the ocean/haystack rock.

The decor in the room is cute and lodgey/NW. I read some reviews on here before we went that said the decor was outdated, but we found it quite the contrary. The decor was cute and lodgy and our room reminded me of our room when my husband and I stayed at Salish Lodge. The bathrooms were the only thing that was a little outdated w/light pine wood molding/tile than what you'd find with a brand new lodge with granite/slate but no eye sore by any means. They were clean and had a beach lodge look. The restrooms are large and great with jet tub and separate shower.

Our room had a couch that would act as a pullout bed which I thought would be great for if we had kids with us and that is why I said this place would be great for small families. A select number of the rooms are dog friendly too I found out when there that I thought was wonderful if we had our pups with us to run on the beach like many other families did on the beach.

Location is great and safe... it's only about 4 minute drive to all the main shops/restaurants.
Tons of parking.

The staff was so friendly and helpful! The lobby is cute and quaint with wood burning fire and beautiful river rock from floor to ceiling. They have coffee/beverages and yummy Chocolate chip cookies complimentary for guests at any time of day and their continental breakfast I was actually impressed with a great selection of granola, cereal, fruits, yogurts, hard boiled eggs, beverages, bagels, toast, assortment of baked goods. They also leave out goodies up there (fruit etc) for easy take aways if you get hungry and need a snack throughout the day. They have a great complimentary selection of DVD library to choose from for your room. I was amazed they had new releases that you'd find On Demand right now or in RedBox machines (not all old movies like I was expecting:). I couldn't be any happier with our decision to stay here for our anniversary- Great Choice and we will go back to visit again!

It puzzles me why arguably one of the best ocean side locations on the west coast would produce the Ocean Lodge which has - apart from a wonderful staff - poor overall design. The architects (was there one?) and orginal owners should have their heads examined. Points being: (i) no great room overlooking the ocean (instead customers can warm themselves by the fire looking out to the parking lot and 5 feet from the front desk, (ii) obstructed ocean front views from the first and second floors, and (iii) communal eating area facing the parking lot. Highlights are the location and warm staff; disappointments apart from the lodge layout are the average breakfasts - all cold, basic cereal and toast, etc - despite a high room price. It is a beautiful location but I must say we were a bit deflated having flown and traveled so far to look out our second floor obstructed view to the amazing ocean. Sigh... :)

Room Tip: Don't expect perfection when it comes to ocean views.

My husband and I recently visited the Oregon Coast and stayed one night at The Ocean Lodge with a view of the ocean and comfort of a beautiful room complete with fire place and lovely bedding. We were so pleased with the lodge veranda with seating for viewing and relaxing and listened to the sound of the surf all night only to arise to a wonderful breakfast in their warm and inviting room in the center of the lodge. My husband surprised me with coffee and apple pie first thing in the morning. My only regret is that we only could be there for one night.

This place captures the essence of the Oregon Coast like no other. Friendly, helpful staff, clean, and relatively new but very charming. They thought of everything and it shows. Look no further if you heading that direction.

My wife and I spent one night at the Ocean Lodge. We wish we were able to spend a week. We had a ground floor suite facing the beach with a grand view of Haystack Rock. The view couldn't have been more spectacular. A short walk along the beach took us to a group of tidal pools containing a variety of colorful starfish, anemones, and mussels which we Easterners rarely if ever see.
The rooms were enormous, complete with a magical fireplace that started with a flick of a switch. Housekeeping was immaculate. Turn down service included both semi-sweet and milk chocolate. The staff was very friendly, but unobtrusive.
We enjoyed cocktails and a picnic supper on the patio and marveled over how lucky we were to find this gem of a lodge.
Breakfast was great. There was a large selection of fresh, tastefully served items. We even made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a mobile picnic for our continuing journey.
It was a bit pricey, but well worth it!

Room Tip: Our first floor beach front suite was ideal for quick access to the waterfront.

We began coming to Cannon Beach in early 1989. The previous motel on this property was the Major Motel. We stayed here until it was sold in 2001 to the current owners who transformed the property to the Lodge it is today. Choice rooms are 101-107. These open up to the lawn. 201-207 are up one story. All the massive timbers, reclaimed wood floors and old school bleechers stairways and the large log wood burning fireplace in the lobby add to the ambiance. Nice breakfast each morning, coffee and snacks during the day. The location is on the south end of Cannon Beach, which we think is the best stretch of beach where the water comes as close at high tide than other areas.
The old Major Motel would be proud of what is now the Ocean Lodge

Our plans changed and we were arriving dinner time without reservations in this upscale beach town. i called several and Bonny on the telephone was so nice and accommodating that we went here first. As soon as we drove up we were impressed. She showed us several rooms and did everything possible to make us comfortable. The room had a wonderful view of Haystack and was large and very comfy. We would definitely stay here again and would send our friends.
