Just the sheer size of this landmark is impressive. We could just sit and watch the waves crash around it and the surrounding rocks for hours.
We found the tidal pools a bit disappointing. Just saw a couple of starfish, but not much else.

This is a popular attraction for a reason.... It's beautiful, and a wonderful geologic attraction for all ages. I first visited Haystack Rock on a family vacation at age fourteen. Now our family visited altogether, and my children (ages 18, 16 and 11) loved it. The water and beach area are either cold or chilly though, so bring your jackets! Cannon Beach is also a cute little town to visit, with many restaurants and places to shop.

Huge icon on Canon Beach, you will be bound to see from any of the area vantage points. In and of itself, its a really big rock, as a part of the whole vista,it's only a piece of the grand view.

I can't quite explain it, but in two trips to Cannon Beach I found it to be a supremely peaceful place. There is a large flat beach. And you can wade out pretty far into the water (if you don't mind the cold) and only be knee deep. It seems the light plays a lot of tricks in Cannon beach. On both trips I found that when I shot south (looking towards Haystack) many pictures looked almost black and white, while shooting north produced true colors.
