“One of our favorite places”

Some people might say that Cannon Beach is too tourist-y, but we find it perfect. You can walk on the beach and at low tide, walk out to the monolith Haystack Rock.
Cannon Beach has wonderful shops and galleries for pocketbooks of all sizes. Our favorite gallery is North By Northwest, which features the astounding color photographs of Christopher Burkett. He does art photography and you have to see it to believe it. The toy shop has things we've never seen anywhere else. And of course there are restaurants, cafes, ice cream shops and candy shops galore. Ecola State Park is at the northern edge of town, so Cannon Beach has something for everyone.

“A Beach Like No Other”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

On the morning of June 10, 2012, the temperature was in the 50s on Cannon Beach, a bit too chilly for a swim but a great day for a walk on the beach. A beast called Haystack Rock rises 235 feet out of the sea adjacent to the beach and is accessible by foot at low tide. Many tide pools are left behind to explore at low tide and marine life clings to the exposed rock. The rocks near the beach were covered with starfish, sea anemone, crabs, sea slugs, limpets and other sea life. Haystack Rock itself is a nesting site for many sea birds. The beach had a vast expanse of beautiful beach sand. The presence of nearby rocks didn’t interfere with, nor did it detract from, the beach experience. I really enjoyed having rocks to explore. The distance between Portland where I was staying and Cannon Beach is about 80 miles and it was well worth the trip.

I continued driving south on US-101 to Tillamook (famous for its cheese) on Oregon’s northern coast. The day was mostly sunny, the traffic light and the beaches uncrowded. It was early June so peak season hadn't yet arrived. I feel lucky having seen this beautiful coast before the summer invasion. Nearly 600 miles of ocean shore was set aside for public use thanks to the foresight of Oregonians and Oswald West, a former governor (1911-1915).

well its beautiful, peaceful, stunning. A very tranquil place to surrender you mind and thoughts and drift away on an incoming wave crashing to shore. A must see place!

“Delightful Village”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

It has been 20 years since our last visit. The village is now more like Carmel, Langley, or LaConner and delightful. The architectural theme of the village is extremely well done. The shops are a mix of art galleries, clothing, restaurants and souvenirs. We were more interested in the restaurants than anything else. This is a VERY dog friendly place. Beach access is easy. We're looking forward to returning.

“Cannon Beach-a great winter getaway”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

Since the summer crowds make it almost prohibitive to visit in the summer, we enjoyed our early 2013 getaway. The beaches were quiet and peaceful and as long as you don't go to the town for a favorite restaurant, there are plenty of options (besides having accommodations that have kitchens). We had 50 degree weather and loved roaming around with empty sidewalks...
