we took a chance and stayed at the cottages, wanted a bit of privacy and the use of a kitchen. We stayed in #30 and loved it. Was very large for a cabin, large combined living are, dining area and kitchen. Separate bedroom with queen bed and bathroom off the bedroom. Had a wonderful gas fireplace, large TV, phone, vcr, dvd and microwave. The cottage was extremely clean and looked like the carpet etc..had just been redone. It didn't hurt that we had maid service every day also! Half a block walk to the beach and within walking distance to town. Any questions we had they were more than happy to answer at the hotel with just a phone call. Loved it, we will be going back.

The McBee Motel was the best deal in town, at around $90 in mid August. I hear its also one of the few pet-friendly options in the area, which explains why our room smelled like pet odour. My boyfriend and I didn't have an animal with us, though we both have grown up with dogs and cats - we love animals, and understand that pets have accidents. But our room smelled so strongly of a mixture of urine and whatever they used to clean that urine up that we had to go into town and get a scented candle to mask it so we could get to sleep. Of course this was peak season, we were on a budget, everywhere was booked and we weren't going to make a 'stink' about it - we dealt with it for 2 nights, though I'm glad it was only 2, and that we were just there to sleep. I wonder how we ended up with the 'stinky' room - perhaps because we were young, naieve, too polite? Or are all the rooms that bad? There's no way the staff wouldn't have noticed the smell.

Also there were huge mosquitos everywhere, dispite screens on the windows - they leave the doors open for long periods while 'cleaning', if you can call it that - bring bug spray.

Just to clarify, the hotel where we checked in (Cannon Beach Hotel) seemed lovely - a little drive down the street brings you to the McBee Motel, a subsidiary of Cannon Beach Hotel Lodgings.

Good location overall, and there was coffee and a fridge which was nice. I hate to complain, but regardless our great experience visiting Cannon Beach itself more than made up for the McBee. Thank you Oregon!
