We have young kids and a dog and there is a vast difference in types of places you can stay that accomodate everyone. The Cannon Beach Hotel has a sister property called McBee cottages that takes dogs so we booked there. I would not recommend this place or any of it's properties to anyone!
We arrived on a friday night to find our room literally had what looked like squished in dog poop on the carpet in 3 places. Disgusting!
My husband went to the lobby in the Cannon Beach Hotel and the person he spoke with switched us to the room next door. It was smaller than the one we paid for, had no fireplace and smelled bad. I went back to the lobby again. The front desk receptionist told me they had no other available rooms for a dog. My husband had asked if they would clean the first room but she wasn't willing to do that. I would have needed a carpet cleaning for sure. I asked for a refund to find another hotel and she said absolutely NO cancellations. She would not give me a refund even though they had no suitable accomodations. What a waste of money! I had to spend the money to go to another hotel and dispute the charges on my credit card. The fact that I had to go through the hassle when they couldn't even provide a clean room for my family with small children is unacceptable. I will be sure to discuss this experience with everyone I know that is going to Cannon Beach to ensure they do not stay at these facilities.

On a much better note, we stayed at the Surfsand Resort and I'd recommend this place to anyone. It was fantastic!!

We stayed at the McBee Cottages in Cannon Beach for one night in may 2010.

You need to pick up the key to your cottage in the hotel just a little bit further down the road. The clerk was friendly, but forgot to give
the password for the free wi-fi, so we had to return. The wi-fi signal is not very strong, but it works fine.

We also gave the coupon for a $ 20 dollar discount which you get when you book
your cottage online. The $20 was refunded as promised when our VISA bill came, so that was nice. This meant even more the cottage was
a bargain.

The clerk was on automatic pilot when telling me all we needed to know, since I heard the exact same stuff when I was waiting and another
vistitor was picking up her key.

The cottage itself. One word: cozy. There is a stove, bed, chairs, table, cupboard, extra blankets. The only downside is that there are just a few
utensils and no sink to do your dishes. There is a microwave, fridge with a small freezer, so besides the sink, everything you need.

The bathroom is small, with a really tiny washbasin, a toilet and a shower with hot running water. All very clean!

It was chilly at night, even in the cottage, so we put the stove to full use!

We arrived just in time around 9 for sunset at the beach and Haystack rock just around the corner from the cottage. It's about a 2 minute walk!
Next day we got up at 5AM to watch sunrise. The feeling is incredible. There's hardly anyone at the beach but the seagulls. You can watch the colored starfish
at Haystack Rock and the nearby rocks.

The town itself is rather small. The clerk at the hotel told us we could get a discount for dinner at the hotel restaurant, but we preferred to go to the local
convenience store which was still open to get ourselves a snack and put it in the microwave at the cottage and some nice Ben & Jerry's ice cream bars.

There is no gas station in town but there are on your way to Astoria.

Would definitely stay here again.

Great start to our vacation exploring the Pacific Northwest! McBee Cottages is perfectly located between "midtown" and "downtown" Cannon Beach, and only a block walk to the beach. Rooms are clean and staff is friendly. The photos that McBee Cottages posts on their website of each cottage are very representative of what you get. Would stay here again!

This was our first trip to Oregon, and after driving the scenic highway 101 through other beach towns we were pleased with our choice to stay in Cannon Beach. Beach town feeling with more shops and restaurants to offer than the other places we drove through. We loved our short walk to the Sleepy Monk coffee shop and Lush wine bar -- only 3 blocks away!

This is a unique destination -- right on the beach, and then only a 5 minute drive to Ecola State Park. Great hiking and breathtaking views! We look forward to recommending this place to family and friends. Off to Portland...

Not that impressive from the outside but they really paid attention to detail when remodeling these charming rooms. The 1/2 block walk to the beautiful beach was incredible! My ONLY suggestion is that put a few more utensils in the room. There was one spoon and I could have used a knife and fork as we fixed a picnic lunch to take to the beach a couple days.

What else can I say other than we loved the McBee Cottages! We stayed in cottage 33 the last weekend in June, which is considered a "Basic" room. The room was far from basic, as it included a gas fireplace/stove, two seating areas, coffee maker, toaster, wine glasses and wine bottle opener. The pictures on the website are very true to the actual room: white walls and white box ceiling, new bathroom fixtures, seating areas, etc. Our only complaint about the room (and it's not really a complaint) is that the bathroom is quite small - however, since it was summer, we had no desire to soak in a tub or frankly spend a lot of time in the room at all.
We lucked out as the weather was amazing that weekend - sunny (yes, SUNNY) and upper 60s. We so appreciated that the cottages are only a two minute walk to the beach - so we could spend a lot time enjoying the beautiful scenery but still run back to the room is we needed anything. In the evening, we really enjoyed sitting outside in the courtyard around the fire pit with a glass of wine.
The McBee cottages are only a 10 minute walk down Hemlock to the "main drag" in town, so we were able to park the car on Friday afternoon and not get in it again until Sunday when we left. Amazing! We ate at Bills Tavern, Fultano's Pizza, and the Pig and Pancake - we loved them all! There is finer dining in Cannon Beach for sure, but we loved the casual atmosphere of the town and decided to eat that way during the weekend, as well.
Overall, we loved how the cottages made us feel like we were on vacation - it was casual, but still classy and beachy all at the same time. When we come back, if we decide to stay for a week, we'll definitely rent one of the larger cottages with a full kitchen - but for a weekend trip, I can't recommend the renovated basic cottages enough!

McBee Cottages are one of four properties managed by Cannon Beach Hotel Lodgings, so check in is at the Cannon Beach Hotel down the street. We found the front desk clerk to be stern, unsmiling, and less than welcoming, but since we didn't have to see her again during our 3-day stay, it was a minor annoyance.

We stayed in one of the larger, if not the largest, of the cottages, with a kitchen, sitting room and separate bedroom. We were informed that this particular room had not yet been "renovated," although we didn't see much difference in the furnishings from those of our friends in two other cottages. At any rate, it was cozy and comfortable. By the way, "cottage" is probably a generous description. The property is actually an old 40s-style row motel, made up of 2 long buildings set at a right angle to each other and facing a gravel parking lot and a garden with some seating.

The main reason to go to Cannon Beach is, of course, the beach itself, and the cottages sit just a block away from the beach, so the access was excellent. While there is nothing luxurious about this property, we were satisfied with our stay here. You can spend a lot of money on a room in this little resort town, but we found McBee Cottages to be an excellent value, and would probably stay here again.

McBee Cottages was the perfect spot for a spontaneous trip with an in the ocean at every opportunity Labrador Retriever. Cannon Beach mid-town at this time of year is a great time for a quiet vacation. Not a lot of folks around early week. #37 is not renovated as of yet and some people without a dog may find this cottage a little worse for wear, but it was perfect for us. The kitchen was very well stocked with full sized appliances. Chairs for the table were a little uncomfortable. Sleeper sofa mattress is a sleeper sofa mattress but the bed in the separate bedroom was comfortable, with rustic tables and decor. Brick fireplace. Bathroom is small and not perfect for people expecting the best, but perfectly adequate. Value was pretty good for Cannon Beach, taking advantage of "last minute special", a block from the beach, it was well worth it. Loved the flower gardens and the Adirondack rockers in the front yard, complete with fire pit. BBQ grill is top of the line with a sear feature - perfect for grilled lamb chops from the CB farmers market. Wi-Fi at McBee can be picked up, here and there, depending on your computer, but use of the library at Courtyard (managed by Cannon Beach Lodging too) is an acceptable alternative if you must have the internet. Restaurants, shopping and markets all within walking distances. Would definitely stay at MacBee again!
